The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Research Administration Assistant to join the Department of Molecular Medicine. This role involves networking with a diverse range of individuals, primarily within the University. We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a positive attitude and strong critical thinking skills. Excellent customer service and independent work abilities are essential, along with sound judgment in setting priorities and managing sensitive information. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, excels at multitasking short- and long-term projects, and is flexible and creative in problem-solving. A polite yet assertive approach to customer service and comfort handling new tasks with minimal direction are key.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Grants and contracts management
  • General administrative and department chair support
  • Coordination for the Molecular Medicine seminars
  • Foundation course administrative assistant

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with 2-4 years of administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to work independently but also contribute to a team environment.
  • Detail oriented, organized, ability to develop and execute a plan, problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Provides the highest level of customer service to all individuals.
  • Proficiency in editing, proofreading, formatting, and writing proficiency
  • Committed to continuous learning and have a desire to learn and grow professionally.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate information to a wide variety of individuals professionally and timely.
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making skills and proven ability to handle sensitive / confidential information with discretion.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4-6 years of administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience editing, proofreading, and writing publications and grant applications.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, non-profits, foundations and industry sponsors.
  • Proven experience with grant & contract preparation, submission, and administration preferred.
  • Experience with a variety of Cornell University and outside systems including Workday, Endnote, KFS, OBIEE dashboards, Grants.gov, ASSIST, ProposalCentral, Drupal, PubMed, RAD, RASS, PeopleSoft, Canvas, SharePoint, Concur, Room Scheduler, and AccessIt!.
  • Scientific background / knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • This is a hybrid position located in Ithaca, NY with the expectation of 4 days onsite and 1 day remote per week.

    The mission of the Department of Molecular Medicine is to make fundamental discoveries in basic research that will be relevant to and impact the biomedical community; educate and train graduate students, postdoctoral (PhD) and DVM fellows, and educate veterinary students in the basic biological concepts that underlie the development of treatment strategies.

    Department research encompasses cancer cell signaling and metabolism, structural determinations of membrane proteins and signaling systems, the molecular basis by which cells and their organelles respond to extracellular stimuli and stress, and signaling events that underlie neuronal transmission and function. The Research Administration and Administrative Assistant position will provide complex grant and contract support and a wide variety of administrative support to the Department Chair, faculty, staff, and students.
