Job Summary:
The Medication Technician & Personal Care Aide is responsible for providing high-quality personal care and medication administration to residents in accordance with established policies and procedures, This role ensures the safety, comfort, and well-being of residents while adhering to the 5 Rights of Medication Administration and maintaining a clean and organized environment,
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Medication Administration:
Administer medications accurately and safely, adhering to the 5 Rights of Medication Administration (right resident, right medication, right dose, right route, right time).
Administer diabetic insulin as ordered by the physician.Perform accurate narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift, documenting findings appropriately.
Maintain the medication cart in a secure manner, ensuring it is locked when not in use and keys are never left unsupervisedPersonal Care:
Provide direct personal care assistance to residents, including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility assistance.
Respond promptly and compassionately to resident needs and requests.
Observe and report any changes in resident's physical or mental condition to the DON/PCA immediately.
- Meal Service:
Assist with serving family-style meals in the dining room, ensuring a pleasant and supportive dining experience.
Monitor residents' intake and report any concerns to the appropriate staff.
Housekeeping:
Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized environment on the unit.
Ensure resident living areas are tidy and free of hazards.
Resident Observation and Safety:
Remain on the unit to continuously observe resident needs and ensure their safety.
Alert appropriate staff when leaving the unit for breaks or other reasons.
Must be available for mandation during scheduled shifts (if there is a call of for the next shift and no coverage is available, you must stay until someone comes in for shift)
Adhere to the policy of not taking breaks concurrently with other staff members to maintain adequate unit coverage.
All emergency situations that require EMS or 911 must be reported to the
DON/PCA immediately so that they can report the incident to the Department of Human Services.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of medication administration, personal care services, and resident observations.
Report any changes in resident condition, medication errors, or other incidents to the DON/PCA immediately.
Training and Meetings:
Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings and educational in-services to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge.
Comply with all facility policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/ GED
CPR/First Aid Certified
Demonstrated ability to administer medications accurately and safely.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Compassionate and patient demeanor.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, bend, and assist with resident transfers.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
