What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate/Youth Pastor position at Cornerstone Bible Church?
Purpose of Associate Pastor Position
We are in search of an individual who desires to come alongside the Eldership of Cornerstone Bible Church in order to aid in the pastoral oversight, care, and discipleship of the church body, with a primary focus on our youth and their families. The Associate Pastor will aid in the shepherding of Cornerstone Bible Church by (1) establishing a youth ministry that focuses on the spiritual growth and development of both teens and their families, (2) working with the Elders to make disciples, care for the church body, and evangelize and (3) assist the Senior Pastor in preaching, leadership development, and administrative duties. The associate pastor will function as an elder within a plurality of elders.
The Church
Cornerstone Bible Church is a non-denominational, elder-led church in York, PA. We currently hold services On Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, with expository preaching as our preaching method. The church has grown steadily over the last 7 years from about 46 to 106 official members (not including 30 children) and an average Sunday attendance anywhere from 110-140 adults. Our children’s ministry has also seen continued growth through 5th grade, making our youth the next primary ministry focus. Help with the growing pastoral responsibilities and youth ministry is now needed.
Job Description / Responsibilities
Primary Focus
- Develop a youth ministry program beginning at 6th grade
- Disciple, teach, & facilitate activities/events for youth
- Establish and oversee Sunday School programs for youth
- Schedule and lead annual youth retreats that focus on spiritual growth
- Develop and execute a plan to reach the youth in our community with the gospel
- Equip parents with biblical instruction and resources for developing Christ-centered teens
- Develop and train youth leaders and helpers
- Develop and operate within the approved annual budget for the youth ministry
- Provide biblical counseling to youth & parents when needed
Secondary Focus
- Meet once a month with the Board of Elders as a spiritual shepherd of Cornerstone
- Assist the pastor/elders with church-wide leadership responsibilities and care (such as visitation)
- Willingness to participate in church events, activities, and conferences
- Help with minor administrative duties that may arise as the church grows
- Willingness to preach during Sunday morning services when needed (3-5 times per year)
Qualifications For This Position
- Character. This man must meet all biblical qualifications for an elder found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
- Theology. Must hold to reformed theology/soteriology, pre-millennial eschatology, Cessationist; agree with Cornerstone Bible Church's Statement of Faith.
- Knowledge. Must display exceptional understanding and knowledge of the bible as a whole; must be able to effectively communicate Truth to every age group (i.e. display the spiritual gifts of preaching & teaching).
- Education & Experience. Must have a minimum of bachelor’s degree in biblical studies, Pastoral or Youth Ministry, or other pertinent ministry/bible-focused degree. Experience in administration/leadership work is preferred, along with demonstrable love and understanding of the local church.
- Hard Worker. Must be faithful to his calling and reflect a heart that is dedicated and committed to the pastorate
- Humble. Must be willing to work with a spirit of humility as an Elder with other Elders
- Preacher. Must have the gift of preaching along with the willingness to preach 3-5 times a year
Workplace Expectations
- Work Schedule: 5 days, two of which must be Wednesday and Sunday
- Meetings: Regular attendance at church staff meetings, Elder and Deacon meetings (first and second Tuesday of each month), and worship services
- Service Participation: Actively involved in leading and assisting in various aspects of the Sunday morning worship, such as Lord's Supper, baptism, prayer, etc
Salary & Benefits
Hours per week: 40
Annual Salary: $55,000
Retirement Pay: $2,000 (annually)
Books/Education/Conferences: $500 (annually)
SS Tax: $2,500
Total Package: $60,000
