Overview
Microbiology technician responsible for quality analysis of raw materials, finished products, expired materials, and Contract Manufactured items. This technician will also offer support to Production in making quality decisions, investigating non-conforming product, detailing Rejections/Deviations/Warehouse Dispositions, and maintaining Micro Lab supplies and cleanliness.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:
Ability to operate and understand standard laboratory equipment.
Complete work on-time, accurately, and with Quality and Food Safety in mind.
Individual must be motivated to complete projects either as an individual or a team with or without supervision.
Follow basic GLP, GMP, and Safety standards.
Maintain and update data in the AS400.
Perform equipment checks and calibrations daily or as needed.
Learn and utilize all Micro work instructions/procedures.
Maintain proper storage and inventory of all Micro laboratory supplies including in-house prepared media or purchased supplies.
Maintain proper storage and organization of samples received and retained in laboratory.
Initiate and inform pertinent parties of all material rejections and deviations. Provide accurate and complete information and documentation to allow for proper root cause and corrective action follow-up.
Understand how to properly handle and maintain live organisms including pathogens. There is the possibility of exposure to pathogenic organisms therefore disclosure to supervision regarding any condition that could exasperate this exposure must be communicated immediately. This includes but is not limited to pregnancy and autoimmune deficiency.
Manage daily laboratory activities, including, but not limited to sample set up, sample carry through, analyze, calculate, and report data for all samples accurately, printing/filing of outside laboratory testing reports, disposal of waste, and maintaining laboratory cleanliness.
Manage laboratory responsibilities in minimal or unsupervised settings.
Must be able to communicate clearly all issues, new or outstanding, with the entire Micro team.
Participate in yearly proficiency testing for Micro laboratory.
Maintain and understand environmental monitoring programs.
Ability to multi-task.
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, including, but not limited to weekends, overtime, or holidays.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
B.S. in Food Science, Biology, or related Science field with some laboratory experience.
Computer skills; Word, Excel, Outlook.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures.
