Position Overview : The Commercial Lines Program Underwriter serves as a subject matter expert in rate methodologies, coverage structures, and exclusions, playing a key role in developing and managing specialized insurance programs. This position is responsible for fostering strong relationships with brokers to drive profitable growth while ensuring underwriting integrity.
Working closely with cross-functional teams-including actuarial, compliance, claims, and product development-the Program Underwriter ensures that insurance products remain competitive, compliant, and financially sustainable. This role requires a deep understanding of market trends, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements to continuously refine program offerings and maintain a strong market presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage insurance programs, including policies, endorsements, and coverage structures.
- Evaluates submissions, renewals, endorsements and other requests within delegated levels of authority.

- Maintain deep expertise in coverage forms, exclusions, and underwriting guidelines to ensure appropriate risk selection.
- Analyze policy performance and loss trends to recommend adjustments in pricing, coverage, and underwriting strategies.
- Collaborate with actuarial teams to analyze loss ratios, profitability metrics, and market competitiveness.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers to drive new business and retain profitable accounts.
- Provide underwriting expertise and product training to distribution partners.
- Act as a key point of contact for brokers, assisting with complex risk placements and program inquiries.
- Work closely with product development, claims, legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure program success.
- Contribute to digital transformation initiatives, enhancing rating tools, policy administration systems, and underwriting processes.
- Ensure underwriting guidelines and workflows support efficiency while maintaining risk integrity.
- Ensure all underwriting practices, rates, and policy forms comply with state and federal regulations.
- Stay current on industry trends, competitor products, and emerging risks to enhance program competitiveness.
- Support regulatory filings and documentation for new and existing programs.
