Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will manage and maintain the Accounting Department in both short and long-term priorities. The Controller will utilize analytics to create budgets, control expenses, and maintain the overall financial health of the business. This role will involve identifying proactive solutions to meet the needs of the company and successfully implementing those solutions. The Controller will ensure all accounting activities are executed accurately and in a timely manner, providing continuous status updates to leadership.
Essential Job Functions:
- Possess a strong understanding of fiscal policies and regulations.
- Oversee and manage accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Analyze financial trends to mitigate risks associated with investment and spending decisions.
- Ensure the company’s compliance with laws and regulations, including tax requirements.
- Develop strategic plans for growth aimed at increasing company profits while reducing expenditures.
- Prepare and analyze period-end financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and process company tax filings in accordance with relevant regulations.
- Develop and maintain business budgets, considering both departmental needs and long-term goals.
- Provide advice to leadership regarding financial strategies, spending, and budget questions.
- Hire, train, and manage the Accounting Department, including providing direction and performance evaluations.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO or leadership.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises a team of accounting professionals, ensuring efficient department operations.
Skills/Experience/Training Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting (required), Master's Degree in Finance or Business (preferred).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior management role, ideally in accounting or finance.
- CPA certification (preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team, including experience in hiring, training, and performance management.
