Cornerstone Southern Maryland – Crisis Counselor
Cornerstone Southern Maryland empowers people living with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders to live, work, and integrate successfully into the community. As the largest outpatient behavioral health agency in Montgomery County, we offer years of evidence based treatment experience to our consumers and practical training to our staff. Our robust training program allows staff members to develop and grow in the position and provides the basis for upward mobility within the agency.
Crisis Counselors support clients who are in crisis by providing an alternative to hospitalization. Support services are provided to help clients continue to live their lives including going to work, meeting with their outpatient providers, attending day programs, and spending time with family and friends; all while receiving medication adjustments, counseling, and 24 hour support.
Responsibilities of the Crisis Counselor
- Provide high quality psychiatric rehabilitation in an alternative to hospitalization setting
- Promote psychiatric stabilization by working with the client and their prescriber to discuss medication adjustment
- Develop person-centered treatment plans and recovery oriented goals
Qualifications of the Crisis Counselor
- Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience including military service can be substituted
- The use of a personal vehicle to assist clients as needed is required
