The City of Dallas Department of Aviation is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Environmental Intern to join the Dallas Love Field (DAL) team.

Location: Department of Aviation, City of Dallas
Pay Rate: $21.00 – $22.05/hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Overview
This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental management within an airport setting. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals and contribute to meaningful sustainability projects, including DAL’s commitment to carbon emissions reduction.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the implementation of sustainability initiatives, such as waste reduction, energy conservation, and water management programs.
- Support the airport's environmental compliance efforts, ensuring DAL meets all regulatory requirements and permit obligations.
- Participate in Voluntary Noise Program efforts, contributing to initiatives aimed at minimizing aircraft noise impact on surrounding communities.
- Attend meetings and training sessions to gain insight into airport environmental management practices.
- Contribute to the development of educational materials and presentations on environmental topics, including hazardous communication, spill response, and spill prevention.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on environmental projects, gaining experience in teamwork and consensus building.
- Participate in community outreach programs, helping enhance the airport’s relationship with the local community.
Knowledge and Skills
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated passion for environmental issues, with an interest in the aviation industry being a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data analysis, presentations, and report preparation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to interact diplomatically with city officials.
- Strong skills in investigation and analysis.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Experience or coursework related to sustainability initiatives, environmental compliance, data analysis and reporting, and community engagement is beneficial but not required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited university.
