Cornerstone Systems is seeking an onsite Operations and Pricing Analyst for our office located in Portsmouth, VA. 
 
Job Summary
 
The Operations & Pricing Analyst position, located in Portsmouth, VA, plays a key role in driving the operational efficiency and pricing strategy for Cornerstone Systems. This role combines elements of pricing analysis, operations coordination, and customer service. The primary focus is on processing rate requests, coordinating freight load movements, and ensuring customer satisfaction through timely and accurate communication. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The role offers an opportunity to work at the heart of the logistics and transportation industry, supporting intermodal, over-the-road, and specialized project moves. The Operations & Pricing Analyst works in a fast-paced office environment with a need for flexibility in working hours, especially during peak periods of activity. Regular onsite attendance is required, and the position may involve extended periods of computer use, problem-solving, and collaboration with team members and customers.
 
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
 
Pricing Responsibilities:
  1. Process and submit rate requests, analyzing options to offer customer-focused solutions.
  2. Utilize pricing systems and tools (including Cornerstone’s proprietary system, Quantum Edge) to evaluate and complete rate transactions.
  3. Research market rates using platforms like DAT Freight & Analytics and other data sources to produce competitive rates.
  4. Develop and maintain real-time pricing data for future reference and strategic analysis.
  5. Collaborate with carriers, vendors, customers, and internal team members to provide accurate and timely pricing.
  6. Review and analyze customer bids and rate proposals to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
  7. Source and vet new carriers to expand the approved carrier/vendor base.
Operations Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate daily freight load movements, including assigning carriers and scheduling pick-up and delivery appointments.
  2. Interact with customers to receive load tenders and ensure timely and efficient carrier assignment.
  3. Ensure performance tracking of carriers and maintain communication on status updates.
  4. Schedule and trace bookings, containers, and seal records through steamship and motor carrier web portals.
  5. Monitor and manage accessorial costs for customers and carriers, ensuring documentation of all financial transactions.
  6. Use problem-solving skills to resolve issues and ensure smooth and timely freight movement.
  7. Track, trace, and manage the status of freight in transit, maintaining proactive communication with customers and internal stakeholders.
Customer Service Responsibilities:
  1. Provide exceptional customer service to clients and vendors, exceeding customer expectations.
  2. Respond to incoming customer requests, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
  3. Act as the liaison between customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders, providing real-time updates.
  4. Maintain accurate, meticulous record-keeping of all transportation-related events and customer reporting.
  5. Collaborate with sales, account managers, and other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and efficient service delivery.
 
Additional Responsibilities:

  2. Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and customer service.
  3. Support the development and training of new carriers and warehouses for the approved carrier/vendor base.
  4. Regular and reliable office attendance is expected.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, manager, or team leader.
 
 
Minimum Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Required
 
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field preferred but not required; Associate’s Degree with relevant experience will be considered.
  2. 2-3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, pricing analysis, or operations coordination preferred.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
  4. Experience working with carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, or ports is preferred.
  5. Strong analytical and mathematical skills to support pricing analysis and operational decision-making.
  6. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  7. Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment.
  8. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity.
  9. A proactive, self-driven approach with a willingness to pursue self-training and development.
  10. Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  11. Occasional travel to carrier, warehouse, or client sites may be required.
