Faculty Position: Assistant Professor Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Full-time, Graduate/Undergraduate split Faculty
Cornerstone University is seeking a full time, tenure-track, Graduate/Undergraduate split faculty for our MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MA CMHC) program and Undergraduate Psychology (UP) program. This position is online (MA CMHC) and on campus (UP) in Grand Rapids, MI, so the candidate must reside within driving distance of our campus. We are a theologically conservative Christian University located in Grand Rapids, MI. The primary responsibilities of the faculty are teaching, spiritual modeling and mentoring, scholarship, and involvement in and service to Cornerstone and the general community.
- Within the MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree, Cornerstone offers the following concentrations: Marriage and Family Therapy, Addictions, and Trauma.
- The undergraduate Psychology programs offer a Pre-counseling degree with a concentration in Child and Adolescent services or Marriage and Family Therapy and Psychological Science and Practice degree.
Requirements and Responsibilities:
- We are currently seeking candidates who can teach courses in the areas of Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT).
- Candidates with a broad range of experience who may be able to teach across multiple areas and candidates who primarily specialize in one of these areas will be considered.
- Additional opportunities to teach in areas such as Trauma and Addictions may be available, depending on candidate qualifications.
- Candidates should be able to teach a variety of CMHC and MFT courses.
- Other responsibilities include professional engagement in the candidate's specialization area, academic advising, student recruitment, course and program assessment, and other departmental duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. Cornerstone’s Psychology programs provide a Christ-focused education that is dedicated to smaller class sizes and one on one training of students. Our faculty enjoy working together to mentor and teach our eager students our specific subject matter with a Christian Worldview.
Physical requirements include the ability to teach multiple classes/semester for Fall/Spring (mid-August to mid-May) and use computers, navigate our campus for events, operate lab equipment, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications: A successful candidate will possess…
- An earned doctorate (PhD) in Counseling Education and Supervision or Marriage and Family Therapy is required. A related field may also be considered.
- Demonstrate experience teaching, supervising, and advising in counselor education at graduate level in the online format.
- Demonstrated experience in the integration of faith and learning.
- Evidence of scholarship in the counseling profession.
- Evidence to support an established professional identity as a counselor, counseling supervisor, and counselor educator.
- Licensed eligible in Michigan as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); supervision qualifications preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading in diverse contexts and training counselors if or diverse contexts.
Salary Range and Start Date:
- A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience for a 9-month teaching contract. Expectations: $50,000 - $65,000/year. A full benefit package including health plans, disability coverage, 100% tuition remission for employees and their dependent children, and a 403(b)-retirement plan is included.
