The Learning Specialist - Math position is responsible for providing tutoring assistance to students at the main Spencer Hill campus, Elmira Academic and Workforce Development Center, online, or other CCC locations as necessary. Support the overall operations of the Learning Commons. Occasional meetings at different CCC locations may be required. Prolonged time sitting / standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk / move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing. Typical student-facing office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required.

Essential Functions
Tutoring and Academic Support - 65%
- Provide tutoring services as a learning specialist for math skills on a drop-in and / or appointment basis at the main Spencer Hill campus, Elmira Academic and Workforce Development Center, online, and other locations, as necessary
- Tutor students in courses ranging from pre-algebra through the calculus sequence, as well as occasionally assisting students with the math components of other courses
- Work with faculty to ensure tutoring content and skills support is appropriately aligned with course curriculum, scope, and sequence, and to provide students with needed tutorial services
- Develop and conduct workshops and live presentations for students (e.g. subject-specific skills, study techniques, time management, etc.) within or outside of classes
- Help with the development of supplemental academic resources that students and faculty can access and use independently, such as handouts (print and digital) and video tutorials on relevant academic topics
- Provide accurate and suitable documentation of each tutoring session for the benefit of the tutees, the Learning Commons staff, and others as appropriate
- Maintain familiarity and application of the best pedagogical practices for learning center services
