Scope of Position

  • A member of a plant engineering department and will run individual projects as well as work on project teams. The work takes place within a high-speed machining, plating and assembly manufacturing environment.
  • Project scope, cost, and schedule development are required. Handling these same areas on active projects is required.
  • Design and implement production equipment, measurement, and control systems for manufacturing. Control systems include a DCS process control system, PLCs for sequential logic and single loop control.
  • Develop software and/or use applications to support manufacturing and analysis of equipment, products, processes, and experiments.
  • Projects typically focus on yield, efficiency, and cycle time improvements, troubleshooting, downtime reduction, cost reduction, improving resource or process capability.
  • New or enhanced equipment capability
  • Work is related to products primarily for the aerospace and defense sector.
  • Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, or optical areas
  • Constructs, solves problems, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.
  • Works from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions. Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format.

Responsibilities

  • Controls engineering responsibilities include establishing project scope requirements, concept development followed by system design, vendor selection, fabrication and test, installation, and startup for complete integrated controls systems for development and manufacturing applications.
  • Solutions must meet customer technical requirements, and requirements for cost and schedule.
  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical and controls components, equipment, systems, and networks.
  • Designs electrical and controls equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for industrial or commercial purposes.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repair of PLC and standalone control systems
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot data acquisition systems such as PI and InfinityQS SPC and other similar systems

Required Education & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Leadership and project management skills
  • Problem solving skills and solid hands-on approach intensive experience with root cause analysis, experimental plans and utilizing the scientific method (MEE) to diagnose and solve problems
  • Hand- on experience with computers, motion control systems, PLC programming, and data acquisition. Experience with Rockwell, Allen Bradley, and Siemens PLC systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Code, NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, including overload protection, fault current analysis, and arc flash analysis.
  • Experience with advanced control theory, calibration and standards, and design and safety codes (above).
  • Solid understanding of electrical and control systems, systems programming, logic and process control, user documentation and communication.
  • CAD experience preferably SolidWorks with the ability to document power, load flow, and short circuit
  • Travel is negligible

Desired Skills

  • Experience with multiple PLC Programming languages
  • Experience with PI, SPC, and HMI development
  • Development and Maintenance of SCADA network
  • Should enjoy applied engineering in a real-world setting.
  • Experience working with production, quality and maintenance workers in a manufacturing setting
  • Receive project level direction and execute tasks on own.
  • Communicate priorities and give direction to others.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment with good organizational documentation skills

The range for this position is $88,059.00 - $121,082.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
