Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose Of The Position
Lead an Ops MET team to maintain production equipment, complete next level troubleshooting after shift personnel, monitor equipment and process performance, and improve safety performance. The MET organization is also responsible for manufacturing improvement identification / solutions, and for new technology receivership.

Education & Experience
The range for this position is $96,727.00 - $133,000.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. Day To Day Responsibilities
- Lead teams of skilled personnel to meet department production objectives in the areas of safety, quality, cost, capacity, and technology
- Champion safety performance; Directly responsible for maintaining a safe work environment; Enforce all safety regulations.
- Supervise MET engineers, technicians, and journeyman; Review performance and coach teams / individuals and provide guidance to support development.
- Report to the Fibermaking Department Head and participate in the department leadership team.
- Develop and execute MET roadmaps in support of department and plant objectives.
- Drive a strong linkage with section supervisors in production, engineering, and technology groups.
- Interface with Engineering, Infrastructure/Maintenance, IT, AMT, and PPD to support equipment utilization and new equipment / process deployment.
- Establish effective transfer of new process technologies to manufacturing.
- Maintain and increase team/individual skill level in support of continuous improvement and advancing process technologies.
- Ensure department spend is within budget; Identify cost saving opportunities.
- Define, manage, and support continuous improvement of existing manufacturing processes.
- Interface with the other MET Supervisors to ensure plant-wide consistency and share best practices, related to maintenance and technology.
- Ensure MET teams have clear ownership of performance issues between production, MET, and engineering.
- Recommend improvements to process and/or equipment and drive equipment robustness.
- Ensure appropriate levels of troubleshooting steps are taken based on process feedback, checklists, control charts, attribute management, and information from Operations; Ensure concise and accurate documentation is provided on troubleshooting steps and corrective actions.
- Gatekeeper for when engineering support is required to assist with troubleshooting and/or address significant production platform / process / specification issues or changes.
- Identify and communicate performance opportunities, objective shortfalls, and resource requirements.
- Lead technology (process/product) receivership; Ensure technology is valuable and implemented properly.
Safety improvement, Process improvement, Lean manufacturing, Cost reduction, new equipment / process receivership, and Technology improvements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Technical Field; Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Ceramic/Materials Engineering strongly preferred
- 2 to 4 years Production Leadership and/or 2 to 4 years Engineering experience; Supervisory experience preferred
- Demonstrated safety leadership
- Technical background; Strong engineering and troubleshooting skills
- Proven ability to effectively lead and motivate production teams / individuals
- Sound decision making skills - ability to effectively analyze data from multiple sources and set direction
- Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
- Communicate frequently and effectively, both vertically and horizontally within the organization – strong oral, written and presentation skills
- Strong people skills - able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
- Good time management and organization skills
- Supervisory experience with technical and trades teams
- Conflict resolution
