Role Purpose
This position will lead and maintain technology developments within the division for automation and equipment, while ensuring the consistent application of new technology and standard methodologies. The role involves the development and implementation of the Division Automation Strategy and championing continuous improvement activities, including new technology implementation and fundamental process understanding, in support of cost reduction and quality improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
The range for this position is $95,997.00 - $131,996.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess and interpret business, product, and process needs to establish project objectives and scope for production projects in the areas of machine automation and equipment engineering that deliver innovative cost-effective solutions.
- Manage and influence the technical direction of multi-functional project teams working on early to late stage innovation projects, through concept generation / certification, technology development, detail design / build, and start-up in manufacturing.
- Coordinate with external system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of early to late stage machine controls / programming for automation and equipment system implementation.
- Work with resources across all manufacturing and engineering locations, other business units and key external affiliates to support the delivery of innovative automation and equipment solutions.
- Drive cost reduction and efficiency in our Life Sciences manufacturing locations through automation and alternative equipment designs.
- Ensure all engineering-related activities are conducted in accordance with established design and process control procedures.
- Collaborate with others on solving difficult machine controls / programming and engineering-related problems, understanding project-related issues, and general process engineering and process understanding.
- Document any Intellectual Property developed as part of the project activities, document project results through internal reporting means and present the project(s) for review by peers, customers, and managers.
- Up to 30% travel, to include international travel.
- B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years in equipment engineering, system integration, automation.
- Knowledgeable in controls and programming for automation and equipment processes and drives fundamental understanding.
- High level of technical curiosity in the areas of machine controls and programming for automation and equipment engineering that will enable unique solutions to technical challenges.
- Fundamental understanding of processes and materials to enable the development of cost-effective automation and equipment systems.
- Knowledge of machine automation methods, systems, production processes, data systems, measurements, and instrumentation.
- Proven experience with project management skills.
- Ability to debug and modify PLC code - both ladder logic and structured text.
- Knowledge of closed-loop control systems and PID tuning.
- Sound understanding of AC/DC electrical theory, and practical application thereof.
- Experience with various electro-mechanical devices such as: servo motors, sensing devices, and conveyors.
- Create and interpret electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical
- Integrate commercially available technologies and processes such as robotics, material addition and removal, dispensing, and automation equipment into robust process manufacturing solutions.
- Experience with ISO13489 Safety Control Systems (Sistema, Risk assessment, SFRS and Safety validations)
- Knowledge of Life Sciences products and technologies.
- Prior experience in a plant or division engineering group.
- Performance Excellence training – green belt or higher certification.
- Demonstrated Project management skills
- LEAN manufacturing training.
- Experience in Robotics programming
- Experience with Vision systems
- Experience with industrial vision systems and scanning devices
