Position Title: SCADA Technician
Reports To: Project Manager
FLSA Status: Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
Salary Range: $29.50 - $36.50 Hourly
JOB SUMMARY:
The SCADA technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems used to monitor and control the flow of natural gas within a distribution network, including tasks like configuring remote terminal units (RTUs), managing data acquisition, responding to alarms, and ensuring the system's operational integrity, often requiring field work at various meter, gate station and pipeline locations and pipeline locations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installing new SCADA hardware and software, configuring communication protocols, setting up data points, and integrating with existing systems.
- Performing regular checks on SCADA components like RTUs, data acquisition devices, and communication networks to identify potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnosing and resolving issues related to SCADA system malfunctions, network connectivity problems, data inconsistencies, and alarm failures.
- Monitoring real-time data from the gas network, analyzing trends, identifying anomalies, and generating reports on system performance.
- Responding to system alarms, identifying the root cause of issues, and taking appropriate corrective actions.
- Traveling to meter, gate station and pipeline locations to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment calibration.
- Implementing software updates and upgrades to the SCADA system to ensure compatibility and security.
- Coordinating with gas operations personnel to address system issues and optimize gas flow.
- Adhering to all safety protocols and procedures related to working on a natural gas network.
- Responsible for downloading data trail of company odorizers.
- Assist in Corning's subsidiaries, when necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- The person in this position must have the ability to work independently, take initiative and prioritize assignments with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- The person in this position must have the ability to establish effective relationships and work in a team environment to meet department and Corning Natural Gas goals.
- Strong understanding of SCADA system architecture, protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3), and network communication.
- Experience with PLC programming and configuration (if applicable)
- Knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, including pressure regulation, flow measurement, and pipeline operations.
- Electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in computer applications and data analysis
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two year (AAS) degree in Computers, electronics, or controls.
- Minimum of two years of Utility experience
- General understanding of engineering theory and design criteria
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- The ability to be on call, or work overtime, as needed.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s license
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- AAS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology or related technical field.
- Five years or greater experience with a natural gas based SCADA system.
- Experience with the operation, installation and maintenance of gas SCADA equipment which includes Remote Terminal Units, Pressure Transmitters, Temperature Transducers, moisture analyzers and Chromatographs, etc.
- The ability to design and write RTU programming and assist in installation of all conduit and wiring required for SCADA facilities. Responsible for wiring connections to SCADA equipment.
- Operate and maintain SCADA software program and alarm system.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The SCADA technician is expected to split their time working in both a professional office environment as well as in the field.
POSITION TYPE AND ANTICIPATED HOURS:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours can vary based on business needs.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
The SCADA Technician is expected to spend approximately 50% of their time in the field performing system maintenance, addressing system alarms and repairing system failures. There may be occasional travel outside of the immediate Corning Natural Gas service area required to assist in other Corning locations.
