Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Supervision: Provide daily supervision to ensure superior customer support to all of the plant’s automation areas.
- Performance Optimization: Prioritize support efforts to maximize performance and minimize manufacturing costs.
- Department Objectives: Actively participate in establishing department objectives, prioritization, and resource allocation as dictated by business priorities or conditions.
- Safety Initiatives: Engage in plant safety initiatives and projects, driving 100% team participation.
- System Monitoring: Develop/maintain systems to monitor equipment and process performance.
- Fundamental Understanding: Champion the development of a fundamental understanding of automation processes.
- Career Development: Provide challenging assignments to direct reports and actively work with them to define and update career plans.
- Strategic Planning: Develop short/long term equipment and process strategies for control systems/software life cycles or continuous improvement.
- Project Leadership: Sponsor or lead projects targeting cost reduction, new products, safety, quality, increased capacity, and other strategic initiatives.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal travel required (less than 5%).
Qualifications:
Education:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, or a degree in other Engineering disciplines with demonstrated automation & controls experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Functional or project leadership experience.
- Strong automation background, especially in equipment troubleshooting and development.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical system troubleshooting.
- Experience with manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions both within and outside areas of expertise.
- Strong communication skills and customer orientation.
- Project management capability, particularly in coordinating multiple, inter-related tasks.
- Ability to develop project scopes and timelines.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Data collection and analysis skills.
- Working knowledge of documentation systems.
- Self-learner with a desire to understand a wide variety of equipment and processes.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting/code development.
- Fanuc robot experience.
- Six Sigma/DMAIC Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification.
- Knowledge of various communication protocols & RFID.
- Basic knowledge of fiber optic properties and critical parameters.

The range for this position is $125,900.00 - $173,113.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
