Role Purpose
The summer intern will work in a semiconductor-grade cleanroom laboratory, collaborating with scientists and engineers to operate and maintain vacuum equipment, robots, and associated controls. Responsibilities include assisting with equipment qualification, running experiments, and supporting the design and modification of deposition and etching equipment. This role provides hands-on experience in a high-tech environment, contributing to cutting-edge research and development.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will work with engineers to support laboratory efforts, troubleshoot equipment to maintain processes, modify equipment to enable new process capabilities, and / or install new equipment.
Work with engineers to :
- Perform routine maintenance on vacuum systems and their electrical control systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues related to vacuum systems, including pumps, gauges, valves, and controllers.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards during maintenance and repair activities.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new vacuum systems and related equipment.
- Stay current with advancements in vacuum technology and electrical control systems to recommend improvements and upgrades.
- Document the results of the research by the end of the summer and give a final presentation of project outputs.
- Learn new techniques and methods as needed to support the project objectives.
- Work with engineers and scientists to support and carry out required experiments to advance progress against project objectives.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
