Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Ribbon Cables Engineering manager will spearhead process qualifications, product validation, process capability improvements and cost reduction efforts within Ribbon Cable Processes. This role involves overseeing regional projects aimed at enhancing process capability, increasing consistency, and reducing costs without compromising the quality of output. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive change in a matrixed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, oversee, and assist engineering teams in process qualifications, and product validations.
- Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through process, equipment, material, and tooling improvements.
- Enhance process capability in Ribbon Cable manufacturing.
- Develop and execute process improvement and cost reduction projects.
- Develop, standardize, and replicate best practices and processes across ribbon cable operations.
- Represent manufacturing at the division level, contributing to Ribbon Product Team strategy development.
- Supervise and manage a team of engineers and process technicians.
- Resolve quality issues and update Product Quality Architecture accordingly.
- Collaborate with Technology, Quality, Engineering, Product Line Management, Operations and Finance teams at the plant and Division level to enhance manufacturing capability.
Required Skills and Competencies
Technical Expertise:
- Comprehensive understanding of fundamental engineering concepts applied to manufacturing challenges.
- Proficiency in PEx methodologies (DMAIC, MEE).
- Advanced data analysis skills (Excel, Minitab, JMP, etc.).
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in manufacturing process capability improvements.
- Ability to breakdown processes into fundamental steps and inputs.
- Problem solving through fundamental understanding.
- Create detailed project plans and cost analysis.
Leadership and Problem-Solving:
- Proven ability to lead teams in a matrixed environment, influencing without having direct supervision.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience in driving continuous improvement, innovation, and technical capability expansion.
- High engagement, with the ability to influence and inspire teams.
Analytical and Organizational Skills:
- Ability to analyze performance from technical, process, quality, or cost perspectives and develop actionable strategies.
- Skilled in creating detailed project plans and cost analyses.
- Adept at simplifying and aligning complex data to set clear directions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Electrical Engineering.
- 8 years engineering experience, primarily in a manufacturing setting.
- Proven track record of leading DMAIC and/or MEE projects.
- Experience in managing teams to achieve performance improvements.
- Experience with staff & project leadership roles.
- Experience with multiple manufacturing processes.

Additional Information
- Travel Requirements: Approximately 10% or more, with occasional weekend/after-hours support for projects or quality issue resolution.
- Work Schedule: 40 hours/week, with flexibility for additional hours as needed.

The range for this position is $146,918.00 - $202,013.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
