SALARY : Based on standard Navy contract depending on service experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS :
Retired service personnel Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard commissioned officers, (W-2 through O-6) who have at least 20 years of active duty service, and who have not been retired for more than six years.
Certified by the Navy as a Senior Naval Science Instructor
Eligible / able to earn a CA Designated Special Subject Credential and an English Learners certificate
Must meet the Navy / USMC body fat and PRT guidelines.

The applicant must possess or must be able to qualify for a preliminary California Designated Special Subjects credential in addition to their Navy certification. They must be physically fit and within Navy / USMC body fat and PRT guidelines. During the school year, the SNSI will be expected to accompany the unit to weekend competitions (normally Saturday's) and should also be available on occasional evenings to lead unit participation in various school and community events. Normal weekday working hours are from 0730 until 1630. Some compensatory time off for weekend duties may be made available at the discretion of the Principal. This position is an 11-month contract (no salary for the month of July).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Senior NJROTC Instructor will perform those duties pursuant to the current regulations, policies and procedures as established by the Naval Service Training Command and the host school. Specific duties and responsibilities of the SNSI and NSI include :
1. Teaching the prescribed Naval Science curriculum.
2. Instructing in military drill.
3. Counseling students in the NJROTC program.
4. Writing / updating lesson plans for the NJROTC curriculum and other lesson preparation requirements.
5. Mentoring cadets and assisting with higher education or employment opportunities and goals.
6. Requisitioning all government furnished equipment.
7. Arranging for cleaning and tailoring of uniforms.
8. Surveying old and worn uniforms and other government property.
9. Performing simple preventive maintenance of training aids and devices.
10. Inventory control of all government furnished equipment / materials (including annual wall-to-wall inventory).
11. Ensuring proper physical security of all government furnished equipment / materials.
12. Planning extracurricular activities for the NJROTC unit (including color / honor guard ceremonies, and drill team).
13. Preparing periodic reports on program administration and logistics.
14. Keeping current and abreast of new developments and organizations within the Navy.
15. Assessing unit progress to assure NJROTC program objectives are met.
16. Attending Navy-sponsored training to keep abreast of current requirements of program management.
17. Taking courses of instruction to improve teaching abilities.
18. Establishing rapport with school counselors and faculty members.
19. Making annual presentations of the NJROTC program to students at feeder schools for the purpose of recruiting new cadets into the program.
20. Maintaining financial accounts of operating a budget.
21. Preparing financial vouchers to the Navy for reimbursement of expenditures to the school, made in support of the NJROTC program.
22. Establishing contact with civic groups to obtain their recognition and support of the NJROTC program.
