The Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) is a 50-year-old nonprofit organization that provides direct services to Ohio’s Appalachian counties in Early Care and Education, AmeriCorps Seniors, Weatherization and Energy Efficiency, and serves the state of Ohio in its accredited Weatherization Training Center. The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking a Parent and Youth Ambassador. The Parent Ambassador positions were created to provide support to families throughout Ohio. They can best be described as a liaison between local communities and regional supports. Duties will include providing phone and online support to families in need of information and referrals to community resources, social services benefits navigation, facilitation of Parent Cafes and community listening sessions, as well as establishment of partnerships with community agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
· Under general supervision, respond in real-time (telephone, email, in-person, etc.) to inquiries from stakeholders (families, young adults, and agencies) seeking assistance for concrete supports (food, bedding, housing, etc.), service referrals (parenting classes, etc.), and benefits navigation (food assistance, child care assistance, BCMH application, etc.). Follow-up with stakeholders as specified by policy to ensure needs are met/questions are answered.
· Provide general information regarding program operations; maintains and updates manuals; prepares monthly programmatically required statistical and narrative reports, operates personal computer and/or word processing equipment to maintain records, attends required training sessions, and assists in developing informational materials.
· Establish partnerships and maintain correspondence with regional service providers, governmental agencies, and public entities who can provide support to families within the specified region.
· Schedule, plan, and facilitate regional programming, such as family listening sessions and Parent Cafes (in-person and virtual), to allow for stakeholder feedback on social services system utilization and supports needed; functions as a liaison between the community and state.
· Perform other related duties as required, including participation in staff meetings, training workshops, conferences, and trainings.
· Present a positive public image of COAD; make community presentations related to special projects as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
· Associate’s degree in a related field preferred
· Preferred lived experience, which may include:
o Experience with a child with special needs,
o Experience with child protective services,
o Experience with any Ohio Benefit, and/or
o Experience with a child with behavioral health, substance abuse, developmental disabilities, and/or the juvenile justice system.
· Experience with community outreach, social services systems, and Ohio benefits
· Fluency with MS suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
· Documented oral and written communication skills, time management skills, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to bring together unlikely partners with networking and outreach to reach creative and innovative solutions.
- A non-traditional work schedule may be required
