Deputy Project Manager/ Exercise Designer
Stafford, VA
The Deputy Project Manager (DPM) supports the Project Manager (PM) by applying program management knowledge, skills and techniques to assist in managing this high visibility training and education contract. The PM and DPM plan, organize, direct and coordinate contract-related activities and overall project operations and serve as the points of contact with contracting personnel and end customers.
The Exercise Designer supports Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) training and exercises providing focused exercise support, and contributes understanding of contemporary operations and emerging strategic, operational, and tactical goals and objectives.
Additionally, this position supports Corps Solutions HQ functions, such as Business Development, on an as required basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist PM to actively manage the project performance baselines: scope, schedule, and cost.
- Assist PM to train, assist and mentor BSC Site Leads.
- Support recruiting and hiring efforts as directed.
- Review selected work products before they are delivered to the Client/Prime; typically done for select key deliverables or when a problem with quality or performance is perceived or reported.
- Provide surge support to geographic sites as required.
- Manage and update all Position Descriptions (PDs) for the Project Team.
- Review and submit travel requests from project team members as required.
- Perform periodic travel to contract sites to check quality and compliancy of services.
- Assist PM with other duties as required.
- Provide analysis of a functional area (e.g., aviation, ground combat, command and control, combat service support, intelligence, and opposing forces) and identify strengths and weaknesses as they occur during a simulation-supported training events.
- Assist in preparing scenario concepts for service specific, Joint, and Combined exercises, and refine scenario concepts based on current and future contingency operations.
- Assist in preparing scenario concepts for LVC exercises.
- Perform numerous facets of exercise control, such as EXCON Senior Control, MSEL Manager, etc.
- Assist in the fusion and synchronization of exercise control cells and response cells to provide realistic synthetic effects to training staff.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in developing and drafting company documents, proposals, position descriptions, press releases, and other related correspondence.
- Research information upon request.
- Participate in business meetings, events, and company functions to support the business management team.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Graduate of USMC Command and Staff.
- Project Management Professional certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 20 years as a USMC commissioned officer, including direct participation in operational deployments.
- At least three years’ experience as a staff officer at the MEB, MEF, or MSC (Div, MAW or MLG) level.
- Additional experience at MSTP, MAWTS, MCTOG, MCLOG or TTECG is highly desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and maintain focus.
- Be able to work an unstable schedule, to include holidays and weekends in support of exercises. Exercises often require shifts of 12-14 hrs per day, 7 days a week for the duration of the exercise, which normally are 1-3 weeks in length.
SPECIAL POSITION NOTATIONS
- CONUS and OCONUS travel required.
- Qualification as an authorized company driver is required. All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
- Daily travel in local area during workday (including use of personal vehicle).
SECURITY CLEARANCE
- A NATO-Secret security clearance is required for this position.
