Provide quality emergency first-aid care, education, treatment, and rehabilitation for the possible injured athlete. Carry out the necessary functions to attain quality care. Supervises programs and procedures in the Corpus Christi Independent School District for the care, prevention, and injuries involving athletics and / or participants under the Office of Athletics. Provide direction to all CCISD Sports Medicine activities and personnel. Be responsible to the Director for Athletics for establishing and maintaining all aspects of a high quality Sports Medicine program.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS :
Serves as a resource person to coaches on conditioning programs, off-season programs, diet, etc.Administers first aid to injured athletes.Works cooperatively with and under the direction of a physician with respect to reconditioning procedures, operation of therapeutic modalities and equipment, and referral to the physician, health services, or hospital.Serves as a consultant on the proper fitting of athletic equipment for middle schools.Recommends procedures to be carried out by a coach and / or student trainer for the prevention of injuries and in the event emergency first-aid care of an athlete as needed.Conducts a program to be presented each year to all coaches at in-service involved with first aid and student trainersto inform them of the training program procedures to be followed.Examines all athletes with significant injuries and all injured athletes requesting to see the trainer / sports therapist.Assists middle schools in the care and treatment of injured athletes.Assists where and when applicable on athletic physicals / screens.Oversee High School wrestling weight assessment.Plans and implements a comprehensive rehabilitation and reconditioning program for injuries and illnesses sustained by student athletes as needed.Determines therapeutic goals and objectives for individual athletes.Applies therapeutic modalities and instructs athletes on proper use of exercise equipment.Evaluates and records rehabilitation progress of athletes. Develops criteria for progression and return to competition.Follows the professional, ethical, and legal parameters regarding the use of drugs and therapeutic agents for the treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes.Supervises the training room, keeps adequate records, and recommends budgetary needs.Supervises and instructs student trainers and other staff members as necessary for quality injury care. (student trainer workshop)Is responsible for applications of insurance to minimize problems of protocol.Communicates with parents, physicians, and coaches concerning injured athletes.Maintains records on athletic injuries, referrals to physicians, and treatment given.Maintains the training room in a clean, organized manner.Coordinates medical coverage for CCISD events.Handles all athletic trainer personnel needs.Assists the other athletic trainers with their events.Covers events that the other athletic trainers can not cover.Visits middle schools to evaluate injuries and provides injury care.Establish a middle school student trainer program.Establish an "Injury Education" program for coaches for middle schools.Coordinates purchasing of medical supplies at middle school level.Sets up and provides Aquatic Therapy sessions.Coordinates all athletic insurance bids and problems.Sets up venues with ice and water for events.Establishes C.E.V. presentations for the Athletic Trainers.Helps instruct the coaching staff in the proper procedures to care for any emergency situation that may occur. Coordinates with the Director for Athletics, the tracking of coaches CPR and First Aid / AED credentials to maintain current standings.Organizes and maintains a workshop to be held annually that would provide an educational and social experience for all student trainers in CCISD.Responsible for Fixed Assets report in the Office of Athletics.Conducts MRSA inspection of all middle school campuses.Inspects playing venues and is responsible for initiating work orders as needed for athletic district facilities.Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the District Athletic Coordinators and the Director for Athletics.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supervises the work of athletic trainers and student assistants.Evaluates campus athletic trainers in cooperation with high school athletic coordinatorWORKING CONDITIONS :
