Job Summary And Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY: The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for providing therapeutic intervention, education, and treatments to acute care and outpatients under the direction of a Physical Therapist at Corpus Christi Medical Center. The clinician will organize and implement physical therapy programs to restore function and prevent disability following disease, surgery or illness. This position requires proficiency in acute care and outpatient services. Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice, while providing the highest quality healthcare that is patient oriented, advanced in technology, cost effective and with care and compassion. The hospital mission and vision will be insured by the integration of Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology, and throughout the coordination of Case Management, Social Work and departments in the hospital and community.

Job Summary And Qualifications

- Performs heat, light, sound, water and electrical modality treatments as directed.
- Administers traction to relieve neck and back pain.
- Instructs, motivates and assists patients in a caring and empathetic manner to learn and improve functional activities and functional mobility.
- Observes patients during treatments and compiles patient data in response to treatment progress and reports to supervising physical therapist.
- Fits patients for, adjusts and trains patients in use and care of braces prostheses, and supportive devices such as crutches, canes and walkers.
- Communicates with supervising physical therapist and other team members to discuss and evaluate the patient’s status and progress.
- Provides orientation to new physical therapy assistants and directs and gives instruction to physical therapy technicians.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (LPTA) in the state of Texas
- Associate Degree from an accredited PTA program
- A minimum of 1 year experience preferred in an acute care setting; cardio/spine and wound care experience a plus. New grads will be considered.
- Must be able to work weekends and rotating weekends
