Job Description

Summary: Performs mid to expert level mechanical, electrical, and systems troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on equipment to manufacturer's manuals, diagrams, sketches etc.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs mid-to-expert level break-fix & preventative maintenance. This includes but is not limited to: observing devises in operation to location root cause of problem; dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts; examining parts to detect imperfections; adjustment of functional parts of devices and control instruments; repair and/or replacement of defective parts; testing of device to observe performance; and performing tests for electrical circuitry and mechanical systems; reconditioning and repairing machine tools.
  • Identifies and sources parts, supplies and repair items as necessary.
  • Independently performs maintenance as per industry standards.
  • Provides support and back up for other members of the department as needed by leadership. 
  • Assures compliance with 5S and housekeeping standards. Must Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Completes on the job training for career development.
  • Updates records in the web-based maintenance request form Smartsheet system.
  • Drives and participates in continuous improvement activities - processes, results and cost savings.
  • Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions and guidelines.  Situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Troubleshoots and analyzes control systems to resolve software/ hardware and configuration problems. 
  • Utilizes predictive maintenance technologies to collect equipment performance data.
  • Aids lower-level technicians and provides leadership to small teams. 
  • Performs more advanced functions as a part of training and development.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities for success in this position:

  • Understands electrical, mechanical, fluid power and control systems. Can analyze problems and perform repairs.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and specialized tools as appropriate
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, and ask questions as appropriately.
  • Ability to manage one’s own time and respect the time of others.
  • Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual or with a team.
  • Ability to perform tasks under time pressure deadlines.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and communicate information and ideas with and from others.
  • Ability to recognize when something has gone wrong or is likely to go wrong. 

Knowledge, Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Degree or equivalent (GED).
  • Associates degree with a technical focus and 3 years of related experience in general industry; or 5 years of related experience in general industry.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical, mechanical and fluid power systems. Can perform repairs

Physical and Work Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature.
  • Must be able to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods.
  • You must wear proper safety equipment as required by company policies.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds when necessary.
  • The ability to see details at close range.
  • Must have and maintain a current driver’s license.
  • Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record (subject to MVR)
