Correctional Medical Management is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Minnehaha County Jail. The Nurse Practitioner will provide top quality primary care and medical management to incarcerated patients.
Responsibilities
- Plan direct and evaluate patient care in ambulatory health services
- Examine and treat chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents and other injuries / illnesses
- Performs and documents patient evaluations, including taking the patient’s history and conducting a physical examination
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests
- Writes orders for medical medications and treatments, under guidelines of licensure
- May perform invasive procedures as necessary
- Recommend referrals to specialized care providers
- Dictates discharge summaries and transfer orders
- Communicates with outside providers and internal peers to ensure continuity of care
- Maintains and follows patient care protocols
- Works with members of the healthcare team in educating the patients of their medical care
- Continually updates clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, formal and informal education and review of literature for the benefit of themselves as well as for the healthcare team
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and adherence to best practices
- Assist in developing policies, protocols, standards and guidelines
- All other duties as assigned
