Correctional Medical Management is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team at the Minnehaha County Jail. The Medical Assistant will perform and assist with a variety of basic patient care activities under the direct supervision of a provider. The Medical Assistant will assist in maintaining medical records, facilitating medical appointments, preparing exam rooms, recording patient medical history and vitals and assisting the provider with patient exams and procedures. This is a Monday - Friday position with no nights or weekends!
Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers in the operation of medical equipment or provision of patient care
- Check and record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, blood sugars, weights, etc.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a provider or medical staff
- Assist provider in examining and treating patients
- Maintain patient records and ensure accuracy
- Prepares exam rooms for patient appointments, disinfects and cleans exam room following patient appointments
- Stocks medical supplies in exam room, maintains instruments, prepare sterilization as required
- Maintain logs and required checks of medications, equipment, supplies
- Provide patient education
- Assist in managing patient appointment flow
- All other duties as assigned
Other Responsibilities
- Completes required orientation as directed by facility
- Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
- Upholds HIPAA regulations
- Respects cultural and religious practices of patients
- Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
Position Requirements
- Current Certified Medical Assistant license, in good standing with the State licensing board
- Current CPR Certification

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
