A service writer is the liaison between customers who need repairs performed on their vehicles and the technicians who will provide those repairs, working hand in hand with technicians and assigning work. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Fleet Manager and Shop Foreman's.
Primary Job Duties:
Meet with internal and external customers to listen to their needs for repair and / or service of their vehicle issues.
Prepares repair orders (RO) by describing symptoms, problems, and causes discovered, as well as repairs and services required.
Develops estimates by costing materials, supplies, and labor.
Increase customer satisfaction by building customer relations both internal and external
Maintain the Companys standards for ethical business practices, professional image, orderliness, customer. service and good employee and community relations.
Monitor the progress of each vehicle throughout the day, and update customers, shop foremans and the shop manager frequently. Includes communicating with dispatch on Company owned vehicles.
Be available, on a rotational basis, for on-call in response to after-hour and emergency requests. Also including Saturday 7-12pm short shift rotation.
Responsible for overseeing the technician working on customers vehicle including their time management / efficiency, parts ordering, job completion times.
Oversee and participate in quality control.
Participate in the development of documentation of standard operating procedures as appropriate.
Follows company quality, safety and environmental guidelines as well as employee handbook policies.
Regular and reliable attendance and presence at work
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to effectively perform responsibilities under a high level of stress
Operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications / Experience / Education:
High school diploma with 2 years customer service.
Experience with parts.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
