What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Manager position at Corrigan Moving Systems?
Corrigan Moving Systems is seeking an Operations Manager to manage our local service crews at our Chicago (Hanover Park) branch. This is a challenging position that would involve supervising local moving crews of between 20 and 40 associates, daily dispatch & problem solving, hiring, firing and discipline.
No industry experience is required as we will teach you everything you need to know during your initial training period. However, we do prefer a background of transportation management or dispatch.

Job Responsibilities
As an Operations Manager you are responsible for three primary areas: Safety, Quality, and Profitability. To achieve these goals your daily responsibilities include:
- Crew Scheduling – Assign crew members to individual jobs for the next day, maximizing efficiencies with individual members and minimizing unnecessary costs
- Dispatch Crews – Discuss assignments with each crew leader each morning and problem solve unexpected events throughout the day
- Warehouse Supervision – Track the shipments stored in our warehouse and supervise the warehouse manager in completion of his duties
- HR Management – Manage all aspects of hiring, discipline, and termination for local workforce
- Safety Management – Ensure all crews & vehicles are operating safely and legally
Expectations
Ability to work 6:30 am – 4:30 pm, with one hour lunch. Longer hours are required if they are necessary to get the job done. This is full-time, on-site.
Qualifications
- Solid intelligence with superior problem-solving ability
- Ability to have a “thick skin” when dealing with tough problems and difficult individuals
- Capable of succeeding in an autonomous work environment
- Attention to detail
- Bachelor’s Degree is highly preferred; a business major is a plus
- Solid computer skills required, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and typing
- Display ethical character in action and decisions
Compensation
- Base salary – $75,000 per year
