Job Title: Director of Children’s Ministry

Department: Children’s Ministry

Reports To: Senior Pastor

Accountable To: Senior Pastor and SPRC

Designation: Full-Time with Benefits option

Job Summary

The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness among Nursery through 6th Graders and their families, ministering in a fun, dynamic, and creative environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Recruit, train, hire, supervise Nursery Attendants. Recruit, train and supervise all volunteers related to Children’s programs/events including Sunday School teachers for Pre-K through 6th grade, Children’s Church, Faith With Friends, Club 56, Pray and Play, and Acolytes.

Budgetary Responsibilities

Recommend Annual Budget to the Sr. Pastor and Director of Operations. Maintain the budget during the fiscal year.

Duties/Responsibilities

Ongoing ministries for elementary age children and their families

o Develop, communicate, implement, and maintain all ministries (including new ideas) for children and their families.

o Develop, communicate, implement, and maintain a Children’s Ministry Calendar and place all activities for children on the Church calendar.

o Order or approve all supplies, curriculum, and equipment needed for children’s ministry.

o Include District and Conference events in the calendar as available.

o Develop specific plans for spiritual growth of children and their families.

o Develop specific plans for all-church fellowship in conjunction with Director of Youth Ministry and the Pastors.

o Work with FMC Preschool Director to reach Preschool families.

o Be responsible for all children’s ministry areas and equipment.

o Participate in staff meetings, provide attendance numbers to Administrative Assistant weekly, attend Church Council meetings, and give staff report as requested.

o Market Children’s ministry and activities:

§ Work with Social Media Team to maintain children’s area of Web site and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

§ Provide items for the newsletter.

§ Make available relevant announcements pertaining to children’s ministry during church service and for the bulletin

o Specific ongoing ministries:

§ Nursery Coordination (Sundays and special events)

§ Sunday School classes.

§ Children’s Sermon/Time during Sunday Worship Services.

§ Sunday’s Children’s Church

§ Faith With Friends Afterschool Program on Mondays (1st – 4th grades)

§ Work with Youth Minister to implement Club 56 Afterschool Program on Wednesday (5th-6th grades)

§ Develop and implement Acolyte training and Schedule for Sanctuary services.

§ Missional Outreach to our adopt-a-school programs of the church. (currently Fannin Elementary School)

§ MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers).

§ Other Programs as determined appropriate by Sr. Pastor.

o Partner with parents and families, providing information and resources for discipling their children. (Orange Curriculum provides great resources for this.)

o Provide curriculum as needed for programs. (Currently Orange Curriculum)

Annual ministries for elementary-age children and their families

o Confirmation (January – May).

o Children’s Sunday (February).

o Palm Sunday (examples of activities: Palm Parade, Petting Zoo, Easter Bunny, Egg Hunt, Lunch).

o Vacation Bible School (Summer).

o Art Camp (Summer).

o Facilitate registration for Conference children’s Summer Camp (https://www.revivetexas.org/children/).

o Coordinate Fall Ministries Kick-Off and Lunch (August). Coordinate with Director of Youth and assemble volunteers and work with Women's Circles, Men’s group, and Sunday School Classes for the pot-luck meal.

o Blessing of the Backpacks/Honoring our Educators (August).

o Third Grade Bible Presentation (September).

o Bible Retreat for 3rd/4th Graders (September).

o Trunk or Treat (October). Coordinate with Director of Youth and Sunday School Classes for food service and organization..

o Children’s Christmas Program (December). Coordinate with Director of Music and Worship.

o Plum Pudding (December). Recruit Santa, organize gifts/goodies for children and coordinate with Director of Youth Ministry. Confirm volunteers in place for set up, drinks, chips & dips, and cake and sauce preparation.

Accountability

o Develop and work with Children’s Ministry Committee to consider new options and to have assistance with the children’s ministries.

o Works with the Education Committee of the Church to maintain the Children’s Ministry goals as part of the Church goals. Works with the Committee for input for ideas and funding.

Other Responsibilities

o Assure the Administration of Church wide Ministry Safe Program.

o All other duties as assigned or that become apparent.

o Ability to appropriately use social media for posting programs.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education preferred. Experience with Children’s Ministry is required with an emphasis on planning and executing programs.

Pay: $36,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
