What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Vice President of Capital Markets - Atlanta, GA position at Cortland?
- The executive will work with a small internal team and ensure that critical institutional relationships are formed and maintained in order to create the appropriate opportunities for Cortland to execute its capital raising objectives.
- Success in this role will be defined as the achievement of capital raising targets, client development and retention, and team collaboration as well as contributions including thought leadership, product development and innovation.
- The successful hire will work closely with the Senior Managing Partner and Cortland leadership to refine and execute a business plan to target institutional clients and consultants, resulting in successful achievement of capital raising targets.
- Successfully introduce existing investor relationships while building strong relationships with Cortland’s current investors and prospecting for new relationships with a broad range of institutional investors in the US and globally.
- Leverage or establish deep working knowledge of, and relationships with, all of the top industry consultants.
- Understand, analyze and assess needs and opportunities to pursue, while considering the competitive landscape.
- Work closely with the firm’s investment professionals to provide insight from prospective investor relationships and contribute to the continued development of Cortland’s investment capabilities.
- Raise the profile of Cortland externally through creation of effective marketing, communications and branding strategies.
- Develop and execute on strategic initiatives, identify market opportunities and conduct research to determine effective product positioning.
- Strong knowledge of different market-based Fund structures, and ability to effectively communicate the Cortland strategy and negotiate with consultants and investors on fund structuring and administration issues
Building Blocks of Success:
- 15 years of experience marketing real estate investments to institutional investors in North America.
- Established direct relationships with institutional investors, ideally including corporate and public pension plans, endowment and foundations, fund-of-funds, insurance companies, consultants, and advisors.
- Strong knowledge of real estate and proven track record of success raising capital for real estate funds.
- Proven capability in originating and growing investor relationships.
- Ability to communicate and articulate firm strategies to a range of institutional investors and consultants.
- Undergraduate degree from a well-regarded institution; MBA and/or CFA preferred but not required.
- Team leader with self-drive and a strong desire to contribute and make a difference with solid, demonstrated experience building, overseeing, leading, coaching and developing teams
- Deep network of professional contacts in the institutional investment community and a track record of navigating in the various institutional channels.
- Proven success in setting and achieving aggressive capital raising goals, including a quantifiable track record of raising institutional capital.
- Demonstrated work ethic, patience and tenacity required to develop long-term institutional investor relationships from the basics of assisting in development of their strategy to the detail and focus required in marketing a product to achieve the closing of a sale
- Established credibility and strong reputation as a high integrity, trusted advisor among investors and peers in the real estate community
