The ideal candidate will have experience directing large-scale productions, an enthusiasm for working with students across all grade levels, and a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. This role combines artistic vision with educational leadership to guide a diverse cast and crew of 35 students through every stage of the production process—from auditions to the final curtain call.

Production will run for three weekends beginning at the end of February. We typically have shows on Friday night, Saturday matinee and evening shows, and Sunday matinee.

This role combines artistic vision with educational leadership to guide a diverse cast and crew of 35 students through every stage of the production process—from auditions to the final curtain call.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creative Direction: Develop a compelling vision for the musical and lead the creative direction, including casting, blocking, character development, and pacing.
- Student Engagement: Create a safe, inclusive, and empowering rehearsal space that supports students of varying backgrounds, ages, identities, abilities, and experience levels.
- Collaboration: Work in partnership with the music director, choreographer, tech crew, and parent volunteers to ensure all artistic and logistical aspects of the production are aligned.
- Casting & Auditions: Plan and conduct inclusive auditions, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students. Make thoughtful casting decisions for a large ensemble cast of 35 or more students.
- Rehearsal Management: Organize and lead rehearsals, communicate clearly with families and staff, and ensure students are well-prepared and supported throughout the process.
- Production Supervision: Oversee all elements of the production during technical rehearsal (tech) week and performances, promoting professionalism, safety, and a spirit of celebration.
- Communication: Serve as the central point of contact for students, staff, parents, and district office regarding scheduling, expectations, and performance logistics.
- Demonstrated experience directing musical theater productions with 35 or more participants, preferably within a school or youth setting.
- Proven ability to lead diverse student groups with empathy, clarity, and enthusiasm.
- Strong understanding of musical theater production and student actor development.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed during the rehearsal and performance period.
- Must pass a background check and adhere to all school safety and supervision protocols.
