What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary School Social Worker position at Corvian Community School?
EDUCATION/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- MSW degree through an accredited institution.
- Must be licensed through NCDPI as a school social worker.
- Must be licensed with the state of NC as an LCSW or a LCSW-A.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
RELATED SERVICES:
- Participating in special education assessment meetings as well as individual Educational Planning Meetings as needed, and 504 meetings.
- Working with those problems in a child's living situation that affect the child’s adjustment in school. (home, school, and community).
- Short-term counseling services and group counseling.
- Mobilizing family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program.
- Assisting in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies. Manages the behavior MTSS program.
- Attend MTSS meetings and serve as a consultant for children that are receiving pull out small group interventions.
SERVICES TO STUDENTS:
- Providing crisis intervention.
- Developing intervention strategies to increase academic success.
- Assisting children with deficits in executive functioning skills.
- Assist students who may be struggling with family change and other interpersonal issues.
- Being a student advocate.
- Classroom presentations on issues related to race, social interaction, growth mindset, and other SEL topics.
SERVICES TO PARENTS/FAMILIES:
- Working with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment.
- Alleviating family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school & community.
- Assisting parents to access programs available to students with special needs.
- Assisting parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.
- Assisting parents in accessing mental health resources for their child.
- Help address and alleviate obstacles for regular school attendance.
SERVICES TO SCHOOL PERSONNEL:
- Providing staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behavior.
- Presenting staff in-service training programs (ie. classroom management, SEL and behavior management).
- Managing the campus-wide SEL program.
- Serve as the liaison for reports to DSS for child abuse/neglect.
- Assisting teachers with behavior management.
- Providing direct support to staff.
SCHOOL-COMMUNITY LIAISON:
- Obtaining and coordinating community resources to meet students' needs.
- Advocating for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families.
- Helping the system respond effectively to each child's needs.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Social Work Systems Theory and Strengths Perspective.
- Application of social work ethics in an educational environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Individual and group counseling skills.
- Knowledge of child development through age 10.
