What are the responsibilities and job description for the Composite Structural Engineer position at Corvid Technologies LLC?
Corvid Technologies is seeking qualified composite structural engineers to join our hypersonics engineering team in both Huntsville, Alabama, and Mooresville North Carolina. The ideal candidate will have experience developing complex composite structural models in ABAQUS, NASTRAN, or ANSYS. Composite modeling activities will encompass materials such as carbon-carbon, carbon/SiC, carbon and silica phenolics and other polymeric matrix composites. Dynamic modeling of shock and vibration events on flight systems desired. Experience in modeling metallics to include refractory materials a plus. This is an exciting opportunity to join our hypersonics team and contribute to the development of hypersonic flight systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop structural models of tape wrapped hardware to predict expected flight margins
- Develop structural models of 3D woven/braided composite parts and estimate flight performance with margins
- Work with aerothermal and flight dynamic engineers to apply applicable boundary conditions to structural models
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality analytical solutions
- Work with team members to test hardware components, ensuring they meet project specifications and adhere to best practices
- Participate in engineering design reviews to provide constructive feedback to peers, and address flight design compliance to pertinent requirements
- Plan, execute, and document ground testing of structures to include static loadings, shock and vibration, and combined environment (thermal and structural) loadings
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies related to composite modeling and fabrication
- Work with designers to develop composite structures for aerospace applications
- Work with Corvid software specialists to enhance existing structural analytical capabilities within company proprietary codes
- Potential for travel up to 25%
Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance
- A bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of applicable experience, a master’s degree with at least 6 years of appliable experience, or a recent PhD graduate with relevant research experience.
- STEM field degree (Engineering, Physics, Mathematics)
- Familiarity with government contract work, understanding requirements, compliance, and documentation
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into efficient hardware solutions
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Self-motivated and proactive mindset, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active SECRET or TOP SECRET security clearance
- Experience in modeling composite behavior in high temperature flight environments
- Experience working on projects involving real-time flight test hardware, modeling and simulation (M&S) development and analysis in government contract environments
