What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Coryell County?
Summary of Responsibilities:
The purpose of this position is to maintain the cleanliness, safety and orderliness of County facilities, including the Courthouse, and surrounding grounds. Custodians are responsible for performing a range of cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure a hygienic and well-kept environment keeping areas functioning smoothly and safely.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions:

- Perform housekeeping duties. Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, vacuuming; Clean surfaces, ceiling fixtures and furniture by dusting, polishing, and sanitizing; emptying trash bins and remove trash from buildings
- Disinfect, maintain and stock restrooms with needed supplies
- Clean/sanitize walls, blinds, handrails, doors and areas used by the public and county employees
- Demonstrate proper cleaning techniques while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, following chemical use and safety procedures
- Assist in maintaining grounds care for courthouse and county facilities
- Clean/sanitize surfaces with the use of an ultra-low volume fogger when and where necessary
- Clean/sanitize any location in the county where courts may be operating
- Coordinate supply needs
- Secure buildings; Ensure doors are properly secured when not in use to maintain security
- Demonstrate reliability; Being punctual and dependable, willing to perform assigned daily tasks consistently
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of chemicals used for cleaning and the appropriate precautions necessary to include proper disposal and other hazardous components;
Knowledge of cleaning equipment and their proper use;
Ability to follow safe work practices including workplace safety policies and procedures;
Ability to use building cleaning equipment and chemicals;
Skilled in maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
Skilled in using tact and diplomacy with the public and County departments
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid Texas Driver's License
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and criminal background check.
I understand that final confirmation of any job offer will be contingent upon my undergoing a pre-employment drug screening, and failure to submit to such screening, the falsification of a screen, or a positive finding on a test will remove me from consideration for employment for one year.
I also understand a criminal history check will be conducted. Although a disqualification is possible, in accordance with federal and state laws, a previous conviction does not automatically disqualify me from consideration for employment. However, if I attempt to withhold information or falsify information pertaining to previous convictions, I will be disqualified from further employment consideration.
