Job Title: Bill Of Material (BOM) Specialist
Department: Engineering
Job Summary:
Bill of Materials (BOM) and product configuration creation, which currently resides in sales, transitions from multiple sales employees entering information, to a one point of entry by creating the position, BOM Specialist. This person will be part of the Engineering department. The purpose of the position is to create accurate BOM’s and product configurations to guarantee products are manufactured with high quality standards.
Organizational Relationship:
Reports to Sr. Process Engineer
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and validate PIC (Preliminary Item Configuration), documentation and physical samples of components are aligned with our capabilities.
- Work directly with the Packaging and Sr. Process Engineer to validate samples of final packaging by performing fill capacity, fit, form and function testing. This includes primary and secondary packaging.
- Liaison between Sales, Supply Chain and engineering departments.
- Work directly with Planning and Quality departments in case any questions regarding a product configuration arises.
- Creation and complete accuracy of BOM’s and configurations within NetSuite based on documentation and PIC provided by the sales department once information is validated.
- Ensure that all customer requirements align with production capabilities when creating configurations.
- Support Engineering and Production in the selection, review, acquisition, and upgrading of current systems, software, and equipment within the production area to improve efficiency.
- Define control process for new products during the configuration creation. This may require support from the Quality Department and/or Senior Process Engineer.
- Create and upload work instructions/visual aids on Redzone and/or NetSuite.
- Revise existing configurations through Engineering Change Control SOP.
- Track KPI’s related to configurations (new and revisions).
- Any other task required by the Sr. Process Engineer.
Standard work:
- Review daily requests of PIC, revision of configurations and testing received on the Engineering Dashboard.
- Prioritize tasks as follows:
- Evaluate PIC’s and create final BOM and fill and assembly instructions.
- Testing (FCT, FFF).
- Revisions to existing configurations, items, fill and assembly instructions.
- Evaluate daily deviations and address them accordingly with the right department.
- Assure all activities performed are being tracked in the Engineering Dashboard
- Evaluate if daily activity expectations were met the previous day by reviewing and analyzing daily Engineering task report, and if not why (Escalate).
- Works instructions required:
- How create a final configuration in NetSuite.
- How to revise an item on existing configurations
- How to create an inventory item in NetSuite
- How to upload information on RedZone
- How to calculate correct fill weight

- Final product configuration package. This includes: BOM, fill and assembly instructions, custom labels, special work instructions/visual aids.

- Incorrect BOM
- Incorrect F&A
- Obsolete/replacement item
- Missing information
- Pic Acceptance Rate – Weekly/Monthly

Education Level
- Must have a minimum of High School Diploma or its Equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with Bill of materials (BOMs), product development or manufacturing environments.
Requirements/skills:
- Must be detail-orientated, self-motivated and able to work independently or team environment.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Good understanding of manufacturing systems (documentation, compliance, inventory control, production scheduling/controls, etc.).
- Efficient with MS Excel and other basic computer skills.
- Good typing skills for accurate keystrokes in data entry.
- Work instructions/visual aid creation knowledge.
- Continuous production system knowledge (assembly lines)
- Experience within CPG’s markets.
- Experience with cGMP environment.
- ERP systems knowledge, specifically NetSuite is a plus.
- Continuous improvement and/or lean manufacturing certification desired.
