What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Director position at Cosmosphere?
General Objectives:
The Director will be an integral part of the Cosmosphere educational team working under the direction of the Vice President of Education and alongside other key education staff members to ensure their assigned Cosmosphere Camp(s) are delivered with excellence. This will include preparing for and delivery of camp content, working with counselors, and ensuring all campers are safe, engaged, included, and inspired during their camp experience. This will be accomplished through:
- Assist with planning all aspects of assigned camps;
- Lead delivery of camp;
- Provide supervision and feedback for Camp Counselors;
- Develop appropriate relationships with campers and their parents;
- Assist with set-up and clean-up of camp activities for assigned camps and for other camps as needed;
- Participate actively in camp training sessions.
- Rooms and meals are included.
Camps are typically week-long and the Director are expected to work the full camp (30 to 50 hours a week). Camps often include weekends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM or Education, Science, or History (preferred)
- Good communication, organizational, leadership, and management skills
- Ability to work with diverse groups, including multicultural and ethnic organizations
- Physical dexterity (some lifting of heavy materials and equipment necessary)
