Job Description
CoStar Risk Analytics (https://www.costarriskanalytics.com ) is currently in need of a Quantitative Analyst to join the growing Boston based team. The mission of the Quantitative Analyst is to develop credit risk models for commercial real estate whole loans and CMBS securitized loans and participating in building lender platform to assist lender clients in their loan surveillance and risk management processes. In addition, the Quantitative Analyst performs research regarding mortgage risk, pricing, structured products, portfolio risk management, and related topics.
CoStar Risk Analytics, located in Boston, MA, provides unparalleled tools and information clients need to effectively measure risk, design meaningful analytics, comply with regulatory requirements, manage portfolios, and make informed decisions. Leveraging CoStar Groups unparalleled CRE data, the Quantitative Analyst can provide the transparency necessary to communicate key drivers of CRE performance in markets across North America and Europe. Clients predominantly include commercial banks, insurance companies, CMBS investors, government agencies and regulators.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent and creative quantitative research applied towards evaluation of CRE mortgage default risk, prepayment risk, recoveries, pricing, capital adequacy, and other related credit risk analysis
- Perform econometric-based forecasting, economic reasoning, and quantitative analysis
- Determine the need for changes to existing models and strategies
- Update model calibration and conduct model validation
- Document models and analytic products/tools for external client & internal analyst usage
- Implement data mining techniques to leverage databases for use in a variety of products/tools

Assist with CoStar Risk Analytic clients’ requests and analytical projects:
- Running CoStar Risk Analytics commercial real estate credit default model, including scenario modeling of client and industry/research portfolios
- Work with IT developers on model de-bugging and Beta testing of prototype model versions, program development, and enhancement projects
- Quality assurance functions on model enhancements and periodic forecast updates
- Testing and cleaning of client supplied or industry/research data
- Assistance with primary analyses of the CMBS, life insurance, banking, or agency loan universe; development of appropriate indices that track relevant industry data, characteristics, or performance
- Assist clients with CoStar Risk Analytics training, model execution, error de-bugging, and interpretative analysis regarding Compass loan or portfolio results
- Assist sales team where appropriate with;
- Demonstrations of CoStar Risk Analytics model and other related products;
- Preparation of presentations regarding Capital Market research, market views, and investment strategy
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Economics/Statistics/Real Estate/Finance/Financial Engineering, or relevant field
- 2 years of relevant work experience in a research-oriented environment and/or in financial services including banking, insurance, investment management, commercial real estate, or accounting
- A deep background in econometrics, quantitative methodologies, applied statistical analysis, model building
- Excellent programming skills in Python, R, SQL, SAS, Stata, or other languages and the ability to conduct data mining in large dataset
- Familiarity with regulatory framework including CECL, CCAR/DFAST and Basel III is a plus
- Accuracy and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience with commercial and industrial loans credit risk modeling and analysis
- Experience with CRE or residential mortgage credit risk analytics
- Familiarity with industry trends in with investment, technology, and lending such as AI/machine learning, climate risk, and ESG is a plus
- Experienced user of common market analytical tools, such as Bloomberg, Intex, Trepp
