Software Engineers perform development work across the technology stack (both front-end/back-end expertise). They are versatile in how they can add value, demonstrating the ability to manage the completion of projects that involve databases, backend services, or the development of front end applications. They should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of emerging technologies to support the development of new solutions. Software Engineers understand the full technology stack and underlying applications, services, and databases in order to ensure optimal performance.

The Costco Travel team is looking for a dedicated and highly skilled Full Stack Engineer for its Booking teams. This Full Stack Engineer will perform development of JSP-based Web applications and Java RESTful API-based microservices. The team supports functionality such as Account Management, Single Sign-On, Checkout Process, Integrations with Payment Gateways, and web services related to configuration of the products we offer to members, such as air, cruise, hotels, cars, and ancillaries. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to identify and implement best practices in Java object-oriented programming. This position will require an individual to design, build, debug, optimize and implement solutions in an Agile environment participating and working closely with their team serving millions of customers daily.

*This position will be filled onsite in Issaquah, WA or Dallas, TX.

ROLE

 

      Develops the conceptual systems architecture design and the supporting technologies needed to enable new and/or enhanced functionality within a given product/application, applying principles that promote availability, reusability, interoperability and security into the design framework.

      Supports release planning activities in conjunction with Product Owners and teams.

      Identifies high level requirements to support the definition and refinement of a robust testing strategy.

      Supports the Product Owner with the identification and definition of enablers / work items to support the architectural runway of a given product/application.

      Defines the non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, security, resiliency, etc.) which support the development of epics and user stories aligned to a value stream.

      Identifies technical dependencies across several product / application teams to support the implementation of new or enhanced functionality.

      Develops and implements front-end architecture to support user interface concepts.

      Increases proficiency and understanding of relational and non-relational databases, distributed application architectures, user interfaces and user experience, quality assurance, security concerns, and business value creation.

      Drives engineering best practices to deliver higher quality and scalable solutions.

      Provides the team with the development strategy, solution recommendations, and estimates for a given product/application.

      Participates in scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, retrospective, showcases/demos, stand-ups, backlog refinement, etc.).

      Creates and executes unit tests which validate the code changes made to support the implementation of a user story.

      Uses test driven development (TDD) practices to assist with the detection/recognition of software defects early in the development process.

      Estimates, plans, and manages all implementation tasks and reports on development progress.

      Develops high quality, efficient and fault tolerant software.

      Supports, extends and builds automated CI and CD pipelines.

      Designs and delivers DevSecOps automation for app deployment and testing.

      Uses APM/monitoring tools such as Dynatrace/Splunk and browser tools to perform request purepath/waterfall analysis to identify bottlenecks and suggest improvements.

      Participates in the development and documentation of department standards and best practices, and mentors junior engineers.

      Provides the team with solution recommendations and estimates for a given product/application.

      Identifies deficiencies within a product/application’s code base and identifies opportunities to improve overall code quality.

      Collaborates with team members (e.g., Systems Architects, Systems Analysts) to define project specifications and release documentation for all phases of the product development cycle from product definition to design, through implementation.

      Conducts peer code reviews for the software changes made by other engineers within a team.

      Builds, debugs, optimizes and implements solutions in Java, JSP, Spring, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

      Adopts engineering best practices to deliver higher quality and scalable solutions.

      Identifies deficiencies within a product / application’s code base and identifies opportunities to improve overall code quality.

      Works with team members to move user stories from the development backlog into testing and provides clarification when needed.

      Estimates, plans, and manages your own implementation tasks and reports on development progress.

      Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, take direction well, but aren’t afraid to take initiative and make decisions, see yourself as a problem-solver, and face challenges with a can-do mindset

      Develops high quality, efficient and fast code.

      Performs development, debugging, optimization, and automation activities to support the implementation of a product/application.

      Displays interest in  learning and contributes to full technology stack and underlying applications, services, and databases to ensure optimal performance.

      Demonstrates a strong understanding of emerging technologies to support the development of new solutions.

REQUIRED

      Minimum 4-8 years’ experience in developing client/server applications using Java Technologies and Frameworks

      4 years’ developing REST-ful services (microservices) using Java technologies like Spring Boot, Spring Cloud

      3 years’ experience in JSP, JavaScript, jQuery/React

      3 years’ experience using relational databases (such as MS-SQL Server or T-SQL) to create and modify tables, data structures, stored procedures, and other database functions, or use of ORM tools like Hibernate to manage relational data.

      Must possess a strong understanding of the software development process & SDLC.

      Strong knowledge of object-oriented concepts.

      Good debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

      Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate to both technical and Business audiences.

      High integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and be willing to do what it takes to make the team successful.

      Team player, good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Creative, likes challenges.

      Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced working environment.

      Must be extremely responsive, able to work under pressure in crisis with a strong sense of urgency.

      Responsible, conscientious, organized, self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.

      Must be detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze potential future issues.

      Able to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Recommended

 

      Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

      A passion for being part of a team, willing to self-assess in order to continually find better ways to do things.

      5 years’ experience in Web Technologies

      4 years’ experience in Integrating an application with other applications using SOA/REST web services.

      Developing web applications or services using JSP, jQuery, JavaScript, and Java frameworks.

      Working with monolithic architecture, migration into SOA architecture.

      Experience working in a Scrum/Agile environment.

      Excellent organizational skills.

      Travel industry knowledge.

      Exposure to  Payment processing systems, order management systems.

      Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay Ranges: 

Level 2  - $105,000 - $135,000

Level 3  - $130,000 - $160,000
