What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at Costera Waste and Environmental, Inc.?
Job Summary
The Payroll Specialist’s primary function will be to process and maintain records of weekly payroll for salaried, hourly and commissioned employees using customized payroll software.
Duties
- Audit employee time and labor data and interact with employees and supervisors as required to verify data and resolve discrepancies.
- Establish and ensure accuracy of federal, state, and local taxes, social security contributions, employee benefit contributions, fringe benefits, garnishments and other deductions of employee paychecks.
- Analyze and respond to inquiries from employees regarding paycheck amounts, deductions, leave accruals, direct deposit, and other concerns.
- Process garnishments and communicate garnishment information to all parties.
- Work with payroll system to ensure that the company’s compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, establishing state tax, unemployment tax and local city/territory accounts as necessary.
- Provide summary reports to management as needed.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Competency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with spreadsheets and financial reports.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proven dependability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Friendly personality while interacting with co-workers and customers.
- College degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Federal and State payroll regulations including tax withholding, garnishments, overtime pay, shift differentials, and Prevailing Wage.
Physical Demands
- Sitting: 6-8 hours per day while working on a computer.
- Repetitive Movement: 6-8 hours per day while performing data entry.
- Eye stress: 6-8 hours per day looking at a computer screen.
Work Schedule
Work schedule will typically be from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, or as determined by the President or Vice President.
