Hours: 5.5 hours per day and 27.5 hours per week
SUMMARY: The Paraprofessional assists teachers, specialists and staff in the instruction, supervision and training of both general education and special education students (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12) with a variety of needs, in some cases pursuant to student-specific plans, behavior support plans, or other individualized plans. They will provide a range of instructional services within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures within varied educational environments which may include specific classrooms, learning centers, vocational programs, or other instructional facilities. Other duties may be assigned, including clerical tasks.
SUPERVISION & DIRECTION: General direction is provided by the Principal, Assistant Principal, or Administrative designee. Direct supervision may be provided by certificated staff.

Assist students in the areas of class work, classroom assignments, classroom conduct, and tests, including the adaptation of such
Facilitate age-appropriate social interactions, activities, and instruction for all students
Deliver instruction individually and in small groups as directed
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize own work to meet deadlines and accomplish assigned tasks within established timelines
Encourage students toward increased independence and self-reliance
Develop rapport with all students, being fair, consistent, and respectful
Observe students' mental and physical health; report any potential problems to instructor Maintain confidentiality of individual student and school-related information
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during workday, including parents, students, other staff members, and service providers
Knowledge of Standard English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Take appropriate action in emergency situations, following procedures in a calm, reasonable manner
Assist in the supervision of students in classroom, school grounds, other school activities, before, during and after school
Accompany and supervise children in library or computer activities
Assist in the arrangement of field trips; accompany class on field trips; assist in the supervision of class on filed trips
Acceptance of and sensitivity to cultural diversity Recognize, stimulate, and solicit student interest, input, and participation to the fullest extent of each student’s potential
Provide indoor/outdoor recreational activities based on student need and certificated staff guidance
Attend in-service training as required

Respond to behavior emergencies using appropriate evade and restraint measures as dictated by California law
Ability to maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job
Perform health care procedures under supervision of registered nurse, administration or certificated staff as applicable that may include gastrostomy tube feeding, catheterization, monitoring flow and control of oxygen levels; personal hygiene care such as toileting, diapering, cleaning, hand washing, feeding and other items as outlined in medical health care plan or IEP
Monitor and assist students in using adaptive devices; i.e. electric wheelchairs, hearing aids, speech synthesizers, iPads and like devices, adaptive communication devices, and various other recreational equipment
Assists students who are non-ambulatory with proper positioning, equipment usage, mobility needs
Ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge and experiences in a timely manner Perform related duties as assigned

Pass proficiency test or meet educational requirements
Pass physical examination
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities could be:
Experience/Training:
Positive behavior modification, or willingness to be trained
Curricular interventions, or willingness to be trained in curricular interventions such as Response to Intervention techniques
Prefer a minimum of two years working directly with students, especially students IEP and/or behavior support plans
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent is required
Some college course work related to education is desirable
