Job Title: Medical Records Coordinator
About the Role
The Medical Records Coordinator is responsible for assisting in organizing, planning and directing the medical records department in accordance with established policies and procedures. This includes maintaining minutes of meetings, filing as necessary, and developing a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- File resident charts and medical records in a timely and efficient manner.
- Retrieve resident records manually or electronically and deliver them as necessary.
- Assist in recording incidents/accidents and file reports accordingly.
- Abstract information from records as authorized/required for insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, etc.
- Index medical records as directed by the medical records/health information consultant.
- Collect, assemble, check and file resident charts as required.
- Assist MDS Coordinator in scheduling assessments in accordance with current facility and OBRA guidelines.
Supervisory Requirements
This position has direct reports. The Medical Records Coordinator must be able to supervise staff, take disciplinary measures when necessary, and maintain census and report status changes.
Education and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED, be able to type at least 45 words per minute, and have a working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health information, coding, indexing, etc.
