What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trauma Registrar position at Cottage Health?
Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital seeks a Trauma Registrar for their Trauma Services department responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the trauma registry. The Trauma Registrar identifies all patients that meet trauma registry inclusion criteria, reviews pertinent aspects of the medical records, and completes the abstraction of data from all phases of the patient's care into the trauma registry. The Trauma Registrar must be timely, accurate and complete with all data entry. Responsibilities include:
- The Trauma Registrar is responsible for the generation of reports, patient care summaries, and statistical information to support the trauma performance improvement and patient safety program, injury prevention activities, and the trauma research program.
- The Trauma Registrar assists the medical team in the provision of direct patient care to patients in the outpatient trauma clinic. As a vital member of the trauma service, the Trauma Registrar maintains effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, nursing and ancillary staff, all departments within the hospital, and community partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
- Preferred: AA Degree in Health Care Related field, with college level course work in anatomy and medical Terminology.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
Preferred: Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) by American Trauma Society, CNA, Medical Assistant, E.M.T., Paramedic, or Ortho Tech.Technical Requirements :
- Minimum: General knowledge of anatomical and medical terminology. Intermediate MS Word and Excel skills. Preferred: Experience with coding, ICD-10, and AIS coding systems.

Years of Related Work Experience:
- Minimum: 2 years of clinical experience in a health care related field.
- Preferred: 1-5 years working as a Trauma Registrar or with Medical Coding or ICD-10.
