Primary Purpose:
Cotulla High School is seeking a passionate, energetic, and dedicated individual to support all aspects of the high school band program. This position involves assisting with the marching band, concert ensembles, and teaching 6th-grade beginners and 7th–8th grade bands at Newman Middle School. A percussion or brass player is preferred but not required. Mariachi experience is a plus.
The successful candidate will foster a positive learning environment, deliver high-quality music instruction, and help build a vibrant and successful music program. Strong musical expertise, a student-focused approach, and the ability to collaborate with students, staff, and community stakeholders are essential.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate – All-Level Music
• Demonstrated competency in instrumental music
• Exemplary student-focused teacher/musician
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and parents
Preferred:
• Previous high school band experience
• Percussion or brass player
• Mariachi experience
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the head band director with daily operations of the high school band program, including rehearsals, performances, and concerts
• Teach 6th-grade beginner band students at Newman Middle School
• Assist with 7th and 8th grade band classes
• Lead sectional rehearsals for instrument groups
• Organize and coordinate band events such as parades, pep rallies, and community performances
• Aid in managing the instrument inventory, including maintenance and care
• Participate in UIL events and support compliance with academic eligibility rules
• Provide instruction aligned with TEKS and district curriculum
• Serve as a positive role model for students, promoting responsibility, respect, and success
• Support the organization and supervision of student trips and band travel
• Assist in fundraising activities and budgeting for the program
• Maintain effective communication with parents, students, and the community
• Take necessary precautions to ensure student and equipment safety
• Attend faculty meetings and participate in staff committees as required
• Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and board policy
