Primary Purpose:
Under the supervision of the principal, this personwill work to increase and improve parent/family and community involvement in the Cotulla ISD. This individual will train parents and provide information in order to encouragecommunication with parents/families and the community. In addition, this staff member will be responsible for maintaining accurate attendance records for the campus.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, schools, community and district office personnel
Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases and do word processing
Proficient keyboarding, file maintenance and 10-key skills.
Ability to meet established deadlines
Skills in speaking, writing, and reading a second language predominant in the community is desirable.
Experience:
At least two years of working with parents/families and community members is preferred
At least two years data entry experience is preferred
One to three years of secretarial experience preferably in a public education environment is
preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Serve as a liaison between the school and the parent/families of the school.
- Attend meetings and in-service trainings with the campus principal or director of student services as necessary
- Deliver training to the parent community as directed
- Attend school and community meetings as directed
- Make personal contact with parents to encourage parental engagement as directed
- Provide information to parents/families in order to improve home-school communication as directed
- Collect and enter attendance data into established database and verify accuracy of data according to established procedures.
- Maintain physical and computerized records.
- Prepare requisitions, correspondence, and transcripts using personal computer as directed.
- Assist with the registration of new students, including requesting and sending student records through the Texas Records Exchange system (TRex campus administrator), set up cumulative folders, and enter student data into appropriate databases or computer system.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school policies and regulations concerning primary job functions. Attend workshops and meetings both locally (in Cotulla) and at ESC 20.
- Assists principal and counselor as directed.
- Assist parents, students, and faculty with questions regarding student attendance.
- Call parents to verify student absences as needed.
- Report all attendance problems to designated administrator.
- Work with the district’s Student Services Director and Superintendent to prepare progress reports and provide information to the district.
- Work with the principal to investigate complaints from parents/families and the community.
- Perform related duties as required.
