Job Summary
The Civic Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that promote civic participation, community outreach, and voter engagement. This role plays a critical part in empowering underrepresented communities, educating citizens on civic processes, and fostering relationships with local organizations, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide logistical support to the committee and for the implementation of programs and initiatives of the committee.
- Facilitate committee meetings and recording of the minutes of those meetings.
- Distill action items from committee meetings and execute items assigned.
- This position will report directly to CE Committee Chair with dotted line to Director of Operations.
- Furnish necessary content and logistical information to the Director of Ops and Communications team for promotion of CE programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate with the Communications team via Director of Ops regarding the promotion of civic engagement activities.
Voter Registration
- Coordinate the development and implementation of Voter Registration plan among member organizations as informed by directives of the Civic Engagement Committee and in consultation with Existing Civic partners.
- Use methods that will build capacity for voter registration in the long term and shape best practices for the entire field of voter registration.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of GOTV activities among and between member organizations.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of Voter turnout plan as informed by directives of the Civic Engagement Committee and in consultation with Existing Civic partners
- Conduct voter registrations & update our internal registered voters list.
Candidate Forums
- Coordinate the development and implementation of CIOGC sponsored Candidate forums.
- Provide logistical support to member organizations in member sponsored candidate forums (sharing of existing work plans and facilitate promotion of their forum through CIOGC communication channels.
- Facilitate the promotion of forums among and between member organizations.
- Successfully execute CIOGC’s signature CE project, Illinois Muslim Action Day (IMAD), at Springfield.
- Recruit pages from schools & colleges.
- Train them to understand the Legislative Process, including how a bill is passed in both the State Senate & House.
- Coordinate the rally & press conference at Springfield Capital.
- Follow up with representatives to publish news on TV, print media, and social media.
- Support the CE committee as it builds and sustains working relationships with member orgs & non-member orgs, ensuring effective partnerships, utilization of shared resources, and awareness of common interests.
- Facilitate the formation of local civic engagement committees at each member organization to execute its civic engagement activities; support activities to keep the local committees engaged with legislatures/congressman/senators.
- Assess member organizations’ capacity-building in the field of civic engagement and interfaith through needs assessments and analysis;
- Develop and maintain relationships, work with civic organizations and grassroots community-based organizations like ICIRR, Forefront, IAF – United Power, etc. Work successfully with the broader Community, including Imams, Boards and PEOs.
Qualification
- Has a Master's degree. Preference given to candidates with a degree in political science;
- Has a minimum of two (4) years' experience in engaging the community related to our current defined civic goals in the area of civic engagement: Voter Registration, Candidate Forums, and Voter Turnout (GOTV); Illinois Muslim Action Day (IMAD).
- Has awareness of the different and unique roles of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) tax-exempt organizations as it impacts civic engagement.
- Has knowledge and expertise in working with diverse populations, issue advocacy, political education, community/volunteer service, service-learning, civic learning, and social justice.
- The prospective candidate should have the following: quick-minded, ability to multi-task, and manage multiple projects simultaneously (voter registrations, GOTV, meetings with politicians i.e., legislatures, senators, congresspersons) etc. Ability to work under pressure and take on new assignments as needed.
- Considerable skill in working both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated outstanding written, verbal, organizational, analytical communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Social Media (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook).

Pay: $40,000.00 - $42,500.00 per year
