TITLE: PEARLS Coach         

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Hourly, Full-time 

HOURS: Full-time, 37.5 hours (Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - 4:45 pm, Friday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm)

PAY RANGE: $24.00-$27.00 based on experience and education

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

PEARLS is a Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives for Seniors.  This program will empower older adults to create a happier, healthier, better quality of life through skill-building, problem-solving, and physical activity. PEARLS was developed and researched by the Health Promotion Research Center at the University of Washington to address social isolation and mild depression.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The PEARLS Counselor’s primary responsibility is to deliver the PEARLS Program core services to the identified target populations, maintaining fidelity to the program model.  Designed to reduce depression in community-based older adults, key activities for the PEARLS Counselor include participant recruitment, assessment, and delivery of community-based direct services and interventions. Other key functions include timely completion of all documentation, compliance with data collection and submission requirements, and active participation in weekly clinical supervision.  Effective coordination with internal and external providers and other PEARLS Team members is expected. 

The position is Monday-Friday.  Some work will be offsite at client homes or in the community and at the Council on Aging campus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Recruitment of new participants screening for eligibility; intake of new and enrolled clients according to PEARLS guidelines.
• Develop client plan of care, including goals and objectives, and regularly assess progress towards goals.
• Guide older adults through culturally responsive interventions, problem-solving treatment, and behavioral activation activities, teaching participants those skills to manage their depression symptoms.
• Complete closing documentation including referrals to other services and refer to case management or crisis support services as needed; proactively communicate and collaborate with clients, PEARLS team members, and external providers as needed.
• Completes all administrative and clinical documentation and data collection activities within program timeframes. Promotes client satisfaction and intervenes at critical moments of service as needed or requested, with all activities directed to successfully meeting client and program outcomes.
• Track client progress using the PHQ-9, and maintain accurate client data and surveys to obtain feedback.
• Market programs through strategic outreach to existing clients as well as beyond current clients.
• Manage the PEARLS program within the parameters of budget, compliance, site objectives, and organizational policies.
• Be a cheerleader, but allow participants to lead.
• Create and implement a plan for growing program numbers.
• Meet with the Director of Nutrition and Health Services and with the Clinical Supervisor weekly to review clients and receive guidance.
• Assist with additional tasks as required by the Director of Nutrition and Health Services.
