The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) is seeking a School Based Treatment Counselor to join our dynamic team in Santa Maria.
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled professional to provide counseling and support to youth and families through our school-based program. At CADA, we are dedicated to empowering young people to overcome challenges, develop healthy coping skills, and succeed both academically and personally.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with adolescents and families, experience in providing counseling services, and a desire to implement innovative and impactful interventions.
Qualifications:
- A college degree or certificate in a helping profession, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Professional experience working with youth and/or families.
- Knowledge of counseling principles, techniques, and substance abuse assessment.
- Familiarity with treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation resources in North Santa Barbara County.
- Strong professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience in alcohol and drug counseling or mental health therapy (preferred).
- Certification as a drug and alcohol counselor (preferred).
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred).
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with school staff, administration, and CADA management to identify and engage youth and families in the counseling program.
- Provide individual and family counseling to address emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Help clients build skills to resist high-risk behaviors and improve school success.
- Offer family support, including parenting skills education and resource referrals.
- Deliver counseling services in-person and via telehealth, as needed.
- Participate in school team meetings and collaborate with school-based support teams.
- Conduct classroom presentations as requested.
- Maintain accurate case records, submit reports, and complete program documentation in a timely manner.
- Regularly communicate with your supervisor and respond to program needs.
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week), eligible for benefits, including health, dental, retirement, and vacation/sick/holiday pay.
This is an in-person position, and a successful candidate would be required onsite in Santa Maria. Hours are generally within school time but can vary.
Compensation is dependent of the level of prior experience and qualifications, with a salary range of $22-$25, and a rate increase potential for bilingual (Spanish/English).
In compliance with the California Department of Health Care Services, residential treatment staff require an up-to-date Tuberculosis test during the duration of employment.
