POSITION SUMMARY

CAIR Connecticut (CAIR-CT, Inc) is the state chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the United States.

Since its establishment in 1994, CAIR has worked to promote a positive image of Islam and Muslims in America. Through media relations, education, and advocacy, CAIR works to ensure a Muslim voice is represented in civil society. Through our work, CAIR seeks to empower American Muslims and encourage their participation in political and social activism.

The Executive Director for CAIR Connecticut is responsible for fulfilling the organization’s mission and developing and implementing its strategies. S / he plays an integral role in fundraising to support the chapter’s work.

LOCATION

CAIR-CT’s office is located in Hartford. Upon consultation with the Board, the Executive Director may work remotely as required from other locations in Connecticut.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

General Management :

Oversee all daily operations
Manage all paid staff and contractors
Coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of the office facility

Program Development :

Maintain existing programs and campaigns that are consistent with CAIR’s strategic objectives.

Develop new educational and civic participation programs and campaigns.

Fundraising and Development :

Continuation of ongoing fundraisers and development of future events.

Grant writing, cultivation of existing and new donors.

Membership campaigns and Annual Fund Drive management.

Community Relations :

Act as the public face for the Chapter when speaking to the media and interacting with public officials.

Interface and build relationships with community members, interfaith leaders, and other like-minded organizations.

Establish a community ambassador program to recruit, train, and manage volunteers in the Muslim community to help implement CAIR-CT’s mission.

Set up CAIR informational booths at local mosques and at other events in Connecticut.

Public and Media Relations :

Write and approve news releases, newsletters, action alerts, press statements, and talking points which support and promote the chapter’s initiatives.

Oversee the development of reports, campaigns, announcements, and advertisements.

Develop relationships with local news media who can help disseminate CAIR-CT’s message.

Formulate and implement a communications strategy using digital and offline resources.

Civic and Government Relations :

Conduct meetings with local, state, and federal government officials on an ongoing basis to advocate for Muslim American issues.

Meet and collaborate with civil rights organizations on common causes.

Establish educational events and campaigns for community empowerment.

Board of Directors and Executive Committee Relations :

Attend all Board, Executive Committee, and Special Committee meetings.

Prepare agendas and materials for Board or Executive Committee meetings.

Financial Management :

Develop and oversee the annual budget with the Board of Directors.

Provide monthly reports to the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Bachelor’s Degree (Post Graduate degree in Law or Social Work desirable)

Current Connecticut resident or willing to relocate to Connecticut

Non-profit management experience, especially in collaborating with a working board

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Experience in developing performance objectives and reporting on progress.

Strategic planning and organizational skills

Ability to raise funds and motivate the Muslim community about CAIR-CT

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

The projected start date is January 2021. Evenings, weekends, and off-hour work will be required as needed without additional compensation. Travel within Connecticut and some travel outside of Connecticut may be required and will be reimbursed. Having your own car along with a valid driver’s license is required.
