Position Summary

CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program aims to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

The research associate will support the senior fellow for Southeast Asia and South Asia, whose work examines U.S. policy toward Southeast Asia, South Asia, China, and Australia, as well as issues of democracy and autocracy globally. The research associate will also spend a portion of their time supporting the work of other fellows and programs within the Studies Program.

 

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with the drafting, proofreading, and editing of articles, book chapters, and other written material, as requested by the fellows
  • Managing a complex array of budgets, including preparing budgets and tracking monthly statements, monitoring grant information and writing reports and requests, and preparing vouchers for reimbursement
  • Providing administrative support to fellows, including scheduling and responding to requests for information
  • Researching specific areas as requested by fellows
  • Coordinating virtual and in-person events at CFR planned by the fellows and events they may attend in other places, including preparing invitations, making travel arrangements, scheduling, corresponding with speakers, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support
  • Provide support across departmental lines and for other fellows, upon request.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • BA degree in international relations or a related field, with high academic credentials. MA degree preferred
  • 1 year(s) related administrative and/or internship experience

Related Skills and Other Requirements

  • Outstanding research, proofreading, and editing skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Extremely well-organized and skilled at managing a complex array of administrative support assignments
  • Strong time-management skills with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent professional judgment and demeanor
  • High level of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, including some budgetary experience
  • An interest in Asia is a bonus, but is not

Compensation and Benefits

  • The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $55,000 – $58,000, depending on experience.
