What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Recovery Support Specialist position at Council on Substance Abuse-NCADD?
COSA is looking to hire a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) who is either currently certified by the Veterans Administration or the Alabama Department of Mental Health or eligible to be certified within one year. The PRSS should have a shared recovery experience in order to provide services to individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs). The PRSS will provide case management services which include community referrals and resources, housing and employment assistance, education, peer support, and most importantly, hope. The PRSS reports to the Program Manager.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Share lived experiences with program participants
- Coordinate and implement individual and group group activities
- Complete home/community visits, court appointments, and other meetings as needed.
- Implement life skills education
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of services provided
- Locate and share community resources; assist members in navigating and accessing resources.
- Transport program participants using the agency or personal vehicle as appropriate
- Other duties as needed.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have three years or more of sobriety/recovery (if applicable).
- Must have good verbal and interpersonal skills to interact with members, visitors, and coworkers.
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information, including working knowledge of HIPAA and understanding of privacy, confidentiality and therapeutic boundaries.
- Ability to work independently and seek supervision appropriately.
- Ability to work cooperatively with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Must be able to pass alcohol and drug screen.
- Obtain and maintain Driver’s Clearance and vehicle insurance.
- Must have excellent writing and record-keeping skills.
- Detail-oriented with well-developed problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organization, time and project management, and multitasking skills.
- Professional appearance and manner.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and flexible.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED. College-level coursework and/or Associate’s degree with an emphasis in Human Services, Psychology preferred, but not required.
- Related experience in behavioral health either as a recipient of services, a family members of someone receiving services or primary caregiver of a service recipient.
